1Writer fundamentally supports open data, using standard formats (txt, md) and cloud platforms (eg, DropBox). I can therefore easily use 1Writer on my iDevices and then another text editor on my desktop. It also means I’m not “locked in” to an app. I like the configurability of folders and also of the ‘toolbar’ for the editor. I’ve reconfigured both folder structure and toolbar to suit my way of working. The Preview works well too. I also really appreciate that there’s no subscription structure. I was unsure whether I’d really use this app, when I first bought it, but it’s now my go-to note taking app on my iPhone. Seriously. Thank you to the developer/s for creating and maintaining this app.
I tried several apps for synchronising Nextcloud notes on iOS. This one was the best, hands down. I particularly like the markdown support and ability to access notes/files in any location (not just in /notes) Support is responsive.
Perfect way to write Markdown and save to Dropbox!
Works with cloud services, Dropbox, file providers (e.g git + working copy) has a convenient markdown editor. Allow customising the name of new files, which allows date based notes.
Excellent text/markdown editor, great for short notes and longer pieces alike. A stand-out feature for me is being able to use a Dropbox folder as a location for all my (markdown) files, so that I can edit the files interchangeably from the iPad or the Mac. The [[wiki-linking]] and #tag support are also good. The absence of grammar and style checking so-called features are actually a plus for me – their “artificial stupidity” almost always makes my writing worse and just gets in the way. I’m a grown-up: I don’t need an app to tell me what is an adverb. A couple of things would make it perfect for me: - a keyboard shortcut to search for & open files in one go (like in Drafts, Obsidian, etc.) – it’s frustrating to have to take your hands off the iPad keyboard and poke at the screen just to open a different file - a keyboard shortcut to move backwards and forwards though your recently-edited files
This app nails every use case I want. Wonderful work!
Very effective Markdown app. Exactly what I was looking for. All the features you want when writing on Markdown are there in front of you and it all makes sense!
One of the top text editors on iOS. What makes this great isn’t all the features it has, rather I will point to two things that only become clear it is different once you use the app. The first is the speed of sync with the file menu - other apps choose a different route which makes things slower and the developers responses to support email. Both top notch! The app deserves to be on your phone or iPad.
The only Obsidian app companion on iOS worth mentioning. This app makes my plain text note taking to another level.
