When you pause or switch applications midway of a game, the power ups basically disappear. It's only when you obtain a power up do the effects resume back to normal. Also, you changed the price of the last ship upgrade for void to 240,000 instead of 150,000. Didn't appreciate that when I was very close to getting it before the update.
