Buggy
Would be a great app if it wasn’t so buggy. Planned a trip, changed a couple of settings, app insisted on changing the charger, and dropping charge time from an hour down to zero. Tried to implement the report bug button, but can’t find it!?? Frustrating
New version is great!
The app has greatly improved. Very smooth and very accurate. Love live charger availability. Moaners just don’t know how to set it up properly. Just like you can send the journey defined with ABRP to Google Maps or Apple Plans, a great addition would be to be able send a trip planned in Google Maps or Apple Plans to ABRP to tweak it in terms of chargers etc. The current rating of this app does not reflect at all its level of accuracy and usefulness. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
The app needs optimisation…
There is a lot of love about ABRP, but the app desperately needs optimisation. It has great functionality and an invaluable tool for the EV driver, but it is often frustrating. I have been using the app for years—on various iPhone models—and the issues below have persisted to varying degrees across every app update and iOS version. I do not have CarPlay in my vehicle, so I use Bluetooth audio. ABRP reads so intensively from my Bluetooth OBD reader that the audio stream of music or podcasts to my car’s speakers often sounds like a skipping CD. As soon as I stop navigating with ABRP, the audio is perfect. There are occasions when ABRP is so power hungry that it depletes my iPhone battery more quickly than my MagSafe charger can replenish it and, on one occasion, it got so hot that the phone shut down. Disabling live charger status and live traffic helps with this, but greatly reduces the usefulness of the app.

Great when it works -but
Impossible to get help when it doesn’t. At the moment all users can do is plan routes to charging points. You cannot even enter City names or postcodes. When trying to report the bug it doesn’t let me log in to the website that pops up (probably a bug) and there is no access to customer services. But when it does work it is usually ok, is it worth the annual fee, well let’s see how long it takes to fix it.
Plan and filter based on charging cost.
A tool like this needs a filter by cost. Too many networks charge over the odds for electricity, especially AC chargers at >Energy Price Cap. Options could include: Cost: Contactless Cost: With App Cost: With with subscriptions Cost: less than 65p should be default for ICE cost parity. Tick list for active subscriptions. For route planning: Avoid cost above Xp as an additional filter would be great.

Update 24th May 2024 I feel I have now given it as much of a go as I can. I started to use it for a several hundred mile trip to France and it started well - until the phone started to overheat. I have no problems with overheating using other nav apps, but this well and truly overheated my iPhone 13. When things get hot the app slows to a crawl and even freezes many miles behind the current location. The app truly is awful! Original review I have persevered with ABRP for a month now and find it worse than useful. For example it tells me that to complete a 165 mile journey I will need to stop 4 times to charge, but my car happily completes it in just a single stop. If I switch car play away from the ABRP screen, it shows me in the wrong location when I switch back and spends ages trying to route me back to the start if my journey - the only solution is to cancel and replan the route, but even then the current location is often still wrong. For me the best solution to EV route planning is Apple Maps for navigation and Zap Map or Electroverse for finding a charger when I need it. Using ABRP to plan ahead is useless.
Great for planning - but not for use as satnav
I use ABRP always for planning my routes. We often do journeys of over 1,000 km across France. 5 stars for this. However, when used as a satnav in the car it causes the phone to massively overheat and are about an hour of use the app gets confused about its location. 1 star for this.
