Description

The Aithre Connect app is used to manage Aithre hardware devices for use by pilots in the general private aviation space. The Aithre Connect app includes a WatchOS companion app.
TURBO OXYGEN MAKER. The Aithre Turbo produces breathable oxygen during flight using ship power and PSA technology. The flow rate, temperature, and state of the Turbo can be monitored in the Aithre Connect app.
SMART OXYGEN SYSTEM. The Aithre Avi smart pulse system is controllable with a push button and also using the in-app user specified settings. Merely by opening the app the oxygen endurance is substantially increased by adjusting the volume of oxygen to the pressure altitude of the cabin. Additionally, the app enables selection of automatic oxygen on/off modes based on pressure altitude, carbon monoxide levels, or pulse oximetry levels; the oxygen flow will start and stop automatically based on these settings. The Avi further includes smart pulse technology to enable oxygen conservation during flight by timing the delivery of oxygen to inhalation.
PORTABLE OXYGEN TANK MONITORING. The Aithre Altus is a wireless enabled portable oxygen pressure monitor that puts oxygen tank pressure readings on your iOS and WatchOS device. Notifications are provided for low pressure levels and a reminder is provided to turn off the oxygen on landing. The PSI can also be displayed on glass panel avionics, including G3X and Dynon when used with the Aithre Shield EX3.
PULSE OXIMETRY. The Aithre Illyrian is a wireless enabled smart pulse oximeter with red/infrared dual channels that can be worn on the center forehead or under the earlobe for continuous readings even with movement and activity. Using a flat, low profile sensor pad and simple USB power, the Illyrian oximeter broadcasts pulse rate and blood oxygen data to your iOS and companion WatchOS. The data is presented in real-time and in a trend graph including up to 12 hours of data - along with pressure altitude information. Notification is provided for drops in oxygen percentage. The pulse oximetry can also be displayed on glass panel avionics, including G3X and Dynon when used with the Aithre Shield EX3.
CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR. The Aithre Shield is a wireless enabled carbon monoxide detector that is highly sensitive and portable. CO levels and trend data is transmitted wirelessly in real-time to your iOS and your WatchOS device and to your paired aviation headset for intuitive SIRI notifications. The carbon monoxide data can also be displayed on glass panel avionics, including G3X and Dynon when used with the Aithre Shield EX3.
TURBULENCE. The Aithre Connect app further monitors acceleration in any direction and plots the max acceleration/g-force every 12 seconds. This historical acceleration data is useful in determining the comfort of your passengers during flight or for monitoring g forces during aerobatic flight.
TRIP HISTORY. When used with the Illyrian and/or Shield devices, the trip history feature keeps health and CO data for each trip. These trips are accessible within the app and as external CSV files (spreadsheet files).
AITHRE BEACONS. View near-real-time conditions for precision 3D coordinates in space as reported and provided by aircraft. The turbulence is shared automatically via the included in-app turbulence monitor. Aircraft with the installed Aithre Metis weather system also contribute near-real-time temperature, humidity, and dew point levels from actual flight recordings. All data is anonymous and private and there is no login ever required.
AITHRE ASSISTANT. This assistant enables quick speech based lookup of frequencies for airports, airport information, and runway information. Quick airport frequency lookups and ATIS can be asked for and provided via a paired aviation headset.
CHECKLISTS. Create custom checklists for quick access and readout via your paired aviation headset. Quickly review and check-off items to support safety of flight.

Needs improvement

ITVLAD on

United States

The unit works well, the application needs a UX developer. Not very customizable. Devotes most of the screen to a product that needs additional subscription with no way to remove and show what a user need to see. carbon monoxide screen is tiny on the home screen/desktop. No way to hide buttons on top that, in my case, I do not use.

App crashes creating a safety hazard in the air

Happy iPhone User+ on

This should not be allowed on the market. I’ve used it together with Illyrian Smart Oximeter for less than 2 hours and the app started crashing perpetually on startup. Restarting the phone did not help. Had to delete and reinstall it, but now I don’t trust it so am returning the oximeter for a refund. I don’t recommend anyone using this product in the air without having a backup pulse oximeter. Also, the app appears very amateurish. It comes with superfluous features that clutter the interface and appear pointless. For example, it tries to upsell you to get inflight PIREPs and weather reports but the app needs Internet connection for those. In the age of ForeFlight and FIS-B weather through portable ADS-B receivers, offering weather product requiring internet is probably the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard of. Plus why would I need a weather product inside an oximeter app if I have my EFB and Windy. Overall, super disappointed and rating the app and physical product as junk. Apparently it wasn’t tested in basic scenarios since it’s clear from other comments that others have experienced similar problems. The developer response is unacceptable - they say - hey, “please understand that a lot of technology needs to come together to make it work”. Who cares? You didn’t make it work. It’s a stupid simple oximeter. The scope creep in your app made it difficult for you to focus on core scenario. The engineer or two who coded it literally doesn’t know what they are doing.

Crashed and corrupted

Crashed and corrupted after about an hour in the air on my iPad that i use for foreflight. After this I could not get the app to launch again, had to delete and reinstall. Fortunately my phone is my backup efb and i had this app on it as well, so i continued on at FL180 with my phone monitoring spo2. I have some gripes with the interface though. There’s no way to get rid of the pirep screen or unused “data blocks” at the top. It would be nice to be able to clean up the interface and only show elements relevant to the devices that are paired. The angel button is particularly bad because it covers up part of the UI and is related to a device that has to be wired into the plane. One thing worrisome is how long it takes for the illyrian to realize that it has come off your skin, i had that happen on my first flight using it and puckered up a little when i saw 75% spo2, but then discovered the sensor slipped out from under my earcup. Aithre is a good company with good products, but needs a little polish on the software to work out some kinks.

Great products, occasionally frustrating app.

So far I haven’t figured out how to hide devices I don’t have. I have the pulse ox and CO monitor, but for some reason the app insists on showing me the system pressure for a system I don’t have and will never have (my plane has built in and I have an O2 concentrator for day to day). I really want to hide that from both the top strip in the app and from the watch app because it shoves CO out of view (bad!) but can’t seem to find a way to do so. Usual tap hold, drag, etc doesn’t do it and show hide doesn’t appear to be in the settings.

UI needs some love

kanelplanet on

I really like the idea behind this app and I’m happy to support it. It was relatively easy to start and the oximeter paired with the app automatically, neat! I’m using the headband and the data looks accurate. However some things could improve: 1. The UI is extremely confusing and non-standard. It uses gray text on black backgrounds (hard to read), it uses nonstandard UI elements across the whole application, and it is not clear what is a button and what’s not. 2. Sampling quality is pegged at 120 for me - I’m not sure what this means. Again I really like the idea of this app, but it could use some polish!

Problems

St. James, Penny on

The cut little banner at the bottom of app. Don’t click it !!!!! They will change you $9.99 for doing so. It says remove before flight. Warning caution then you are subscribed to a feature of hardware you don’t even own

Does work....

Disappointed to find that it does not rotate? Frequently pilots use their iPads in landscape mode or upside down. I contacted the developer. They listened. It now rotates. Changed my rating. Does not allow to change degrees from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

Update: Lightning in a Bottle

Through various updates and Aithre’s demonstrated commitment to safety and their product line, they have now achieved a wicked risk-mitigation solution to the carbon monoxide threat in the everyday general aviation pilot world. Aithre didn’t just talk about future improvements, they did something about it in quick fashion. When it comes to CO awareness I trust my life and my family’s lives to Aithre.
