Useless app -- Cam not working, 2026-06-29 ### **--- "Apple Watch use requires iPhone in range" Even though Apple Watch has WiFi and Cellular connectivity, an iPhone needs to be in range (Bluetooth) and logged in. Watch, by itself, cannot open doors. As iPhone switches to house LAN via WiFi (which is likely to happen as door is approached), watch app needs to be cycled to avoid excessive spinning grey-wheel (single watch crown press, followed by re-tap watch app to shorten the wait to see Apple Watch door-opening buttons). Technically, Apple Watch should be able to connect to Akuvox door-entry box without presence of iPhone. We have several useful features: the app you can give specific time access with numeric code or scan QR code, the person can also call you and you can open gate, you can open gate if you are in another car and it gives you access to view in camera who’s coming in. She’d forgotten her access card, and I was stuck in a crucial discussion with no way to dash downstairs to let her in. Normally, this would’ve meant her waiting around for an hour until my meeting ended, but then I remembered this app. As soon as her intercom call popped up on my phone, the clear video interface loaded instantly—I could see her standing right by the door, waving at the camera. After a quick chat to confirm it was her, I tapped the unlock button once, and that was it. No extra steps, no lag, just smooth, instant access. The operation is so straightforward, even someone who’s not great with tech could use it without a second thought. Instead, we get a black screen. The point of the video feed is to see who's ringing the bell. Eventually, when the video feed finally appears, the buttons to unlock the door disappear. Can't tap on anything to open the door. The result is that the person ringing the bell keeps pressing the door bell button. The door bell keeps ringing indefinitely after the door has been opened and closed. This has been going on for several years. Every new release of this app seems buggier and even more broken than the previous one. Yet, we are being consistently reassured of improvements and bug fixes in every new release. I have yet to see a bug fix or improvement.
