How AlfaOBD Saved Me Thousands on My Cummins

When my Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins started having turbo-related issues, I was headed straight toward what looked like a massive repair bill. The dealership solution was simple: replace major components. The cost? Thousands.

Instead, I used AlfaOBD and it completely changed the outcome.

The Problem

Modern Cummins trucks use a VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) system that relies on an electronic actuator. When something goes wrong, even something minor like a loss of calibration, the truck can throw codes, lose performance, or go into limp mode.

Most shops treat this as a hardware failure.

But often, the issue is not that the actuator is broken, it just needs to be relearned.

The problem is:

Most basic scanners cannot perform this function.

What AlfaOBD Did

Using AlfaOBD, I was able to run:
	•	A full bi-directional test
	•	A proper turbo actuator relearn procedure

This is something typically locked behind dealer-level diagnostic tools.

Instead of replacing:
	•	the actuator
	•	or worse, the turbo

AlfaOBD allowed me to recalibrate the existing system.

The Result

After running the relearn:
	•	The actuator synced correctly
	•	Turbo function returned to normal
	•	Error conditions cleared

No parts replaced.
No dealership visit.
No four-figure repair bill.

Why This Matters

Modern diesel trucks are software-driven as much as they are mechanical. When calibration is lost, the system often just needs to be reset, not rebuilt.

Don’t waste your time or money with this garbage app. Is definitely a scam named like the real AlfaOBD to lure people to download it. Once you try to use it they blast you with the subscription. After you get annoyed from the subscription pop up and concede to the subscription the app begins to crash every time you try to do anything on it. Picking up a cheap calculator from the dollar store will give you identical vehicle diagnostic capabilities to this app with the added bonus that will be cheaper and you can use it to calculate how much money you waste on app scammers a year because apple doesn’t do very good blocking these individuals from their platform. It’s all about their profit.
