Ineptitude
I changed my network password, so of course Alexa can no longer find the network. Shouldn’t be a problem. Just change the password saved in the app right ? Nope. Now dealing with the app goes seriously downhill. After failing to find the Alexa echo twice, the app advises you to manually set local network access. The GOTCHA is that the Alexa app does not appear under the local network access tab ! It is not possible to set local network access ! Your device will NEVER be found. Let me repeat that - NEVER.
If you factory reset, deregister your device or change your network password, the Alexa app sends you to Never Never Land. Pitiful programming, by pitiful programmers.
No Customization
The new notification sound after a task is complete makes my hair stand on end. As someone who is autistic and who has sensory issues, I should be allowed to select the sounds I want to hear. At least from a provided sound bank but being able to add my own would be better. They don’t allow any customization beyond choosing Alexa’s voice because they like to control everyone. So you’re stuck with all the pings and bings and they can change them whenever they want. I will be unplugging this now that the notification sound has been needlessly changed, until they allow customization or the option to go back to the other one that was more pleasant. Don’t change things that don’t need it as it just annoys people who use your product.
New version
So there was a new version yesterday that was supposed to have bug fixes and now I can’t link my thermostat. My ecobee plus can’t be linked.! It says, reinstall the Alexa app which I did and or restart the ecobee which I did and or restart my devices, which I also did and it still doesn’t work and says that, the linking cant be done. This is ridiculous.

Not intuitive
In fact not clear at all. I’m sick of hearing the weather announced. I have a family member with dementia that does the same thing with about the same accuracy.
Weak Sauce
I would be inclined to say that Alexa is dumber than a rock, but I don’t want to cast aspersions on rocks as they can be quite useful. Alexa exists to constantly remind you that Amazon is anxiously standing by to fulfill your next need, want, whim, or desire. My interactions with Alexa have demonstrated Alexa to be insufficient to provide the help I am seeking from a personal assistant. Alexa pretends to be an assistant but is just a poorly designed algorithm to convert your questions into text which it then uses to search the internet and regurgitates whatever garbage it finds.
Impossible to use
Basic things (like having it check different people’s calendars depending on who is asking) cannot be done with Amazon Alexa. The UI in this app is so horribly laid out that it takes hours of searching around and research to figure out that common sense things just can’t be done.
If you are reading reviews to try to decide which kind of device to get (Amazon Echo, Google Home, Apple HomePod, etc.) do NOT get this.
Bad connection
Speakers sound great but they do not stay connected. The app says they are connected but they won’t play music when prompted. The controls from Spotify don’t work consistently. They work only sometimes and randomly.
