I downloaded this app back when it was called xiaohongshu (小红书) and after an update it really is for everyone they translated the title into English, there’s a translate feature 😭😭 I know this is a Chinese app but they really are welcoming and so nice!! All this American propaganda about china being xenophobic is not true and look at what they track, not much, compare to what instagram tracks, or even messenger, they say oh no Chinese spyware but it’s instagram thats American spyware 👀 also it’s fun here, it’s like google reviews + instagram + TikTok + Pinterest. Honestly I don’t even use insta anymore, I never had TikTok, and it’s good vibes.

I was introduced to rednote through a Chinese creator on another platform and I have to say, this is now my primary and preferred social media app. The content creators are welcoming and enthusiastic about their platform subject and it’s a great motivator to learn Mandarin Chinese. The community is polite and it is so different from other platforms, there’s no shouting or bullying, because it is mediated by the community and respect is the primary feature of all interactions. I’m so thankful that I was introduced to rednote, because it just brings a sense of peace and community that I don’t find in other spaces, irl or online.

there’s a reason tiktok is called douyin in china, and tiktok in the western world. why not just have the world using the one app? rednote shows why - the language barrier. 

while people across europe tend to speak multiple languages, chinese isn’t typically one of them.

the west and china have different cultures and values. it makes sense to keep two separate apps and drop the hard language barrier. 

also - if the rumours about this app being anti-LGBT are true then disregard this review. we don’t want your app in the west and you can stay where you are.

### ***-- "Great app - just needs to freshen up on English settings"
Rednote is actually a surprisingly good app. I am a Scottish citizen that decided to see what it was about, due to the ban of TikTok in the USA and the rise of popularity of Rednote.

I logged in, selected my interests, and found some really good videos, wholesome people, car videos, and videos from across the world, not just China. The atmosphere was very similar to TikTok, which is a good thing too.

The only thing that could really be improved is the user interface when regarding English. There’s a few spelling mistakes when the app directs you to log in, and when clicking on your account to upload photos, all the words are still in Chinese, even though I have selected English.

If you could fix these issues and make the app more accessible for English/Western users as well as Chinese/Eastern users, this would be a great help.
