《古兰经》是伊斯兰教唯一的根本经典。它是穆罕默德在23年的传教过程中陆续宣布的“安拉启示”的汇集。“古兰”一词系阿拉伯语Quran的音译，意为“宣读”、“诵读”或“读物”，复述真主的话语之意。中国旧译为《古尔阿尼》、《可兰经》、《古兰真经》、《宝命真经》等。中世纪伊斯兰经注学家根据经文的表述，说它有55种名称，其中常以“克塔布”（书、读本）、“启示”、“迪克尔”（赞念）、“真理”、“光”、“智慧”等来称呼。现存最古老的西元688年的《古兰经》藏于埃及国家图书馆。
