故事內容：
山上有座小廟，廟裏有個小和尚。他每天挑水、念經、敲木魚，給觀音菩薩案桌上的淨水瓶添水，夜裏不讓老鼠來偷東西，生活過得安穩自在。
不久，來了個長和尚。他壹到廟裏，就把半缸水喝光了。小和尚叫他去挑水，長和尚心想壹個人去挑水太吃虧了 ，便要小和尚和他壹起去擡水，兩個人只能擡壹只水桶，而且水桶必須放在扁擔的中央，兩人才心安理得。這樣總算還有水喝。
後來，又來了個胖和尚。他也想喝水，但缸裏沒水。小和尚和高和尚叫他自己去挑，胖和尚挑來壹擔水，立刻獨自喝光了。
從此誰也不挑水，三個和尚就沒水喝。大家各念各的經，各敲各的木魚，觀音菩薩面前的淨水瓶也沒人添水，花草枯萎了。
夜裏老鼠出來偷東西，誰也不管。結果老鼠猖獗，打翻燭台，燃起大火。三個和尚這才壹起奮力救火 ，大火撲滅了，他們也覺醒了。
從此三個和尚齊心協力，水自然就更多了。
