《黄帝内经》是中国传统医学四大经典著作之一，是我国医学宝库中现存成书最早的一部医学典籍。它是研究人的生理学、病理学、诊断学、治疗原则和药物学的医学巨著。书中除了包含医学的内容外还包括伦理学的内容，其中《素问》中有大量关于医德的记述。
　　《素问》认为医生要认真研究医学理论，从事医疗实践，“通书受事众多”(《徵四失论》)，否则，“百病所起，始以自怨，遗师其咎”(同上)，等遇到困难的时候才埋怨自己学术不精或归罪老师教得不好，那就晚了。如果造成“绝人长命，予人夭殃”(《离合真邪论》)的悲剧发生，把痛苦留给了患者，把本不该死的人给治死了，那就更应该受到道德的遣责。
　　鉴于此，医生必须从多方面下功夫，对疾病的病因病机、诊断治疗、预防、康复的各个环节上去进行深钻细研，“如切如磋，如琢如磨”，像加工骨角那样切之而复蹉之，像加工玉石那样琢之而复磨之;治之已精，而益求真精。

　　《素问》中记载了多种多样的治疗原则，可谓“术之精”反映的一个侧面。有从八纲辨治入手的，如“阳病治阴，阴病治阳”(《阴阳应象大论》)，此阴阳之治也;“其在皮者，汗而发之”，“中满者，泻之于内”(同上)，此表里之治也，“寒者热之，热者寒之”(《至真要大论》)等。也有从运用五行生克规律入手的，如“木郁达之，火郁发之，土郁夺之，金郁泄之，水郁折之。”(《六元纪大论》)还有从调整机体平衡关系入手的，如“散者收之，抑者散之，燥者润之，急者缓之”(《至真要大论》)，“因其轻而扬之，因其重而减之，因其衰而彰之”(《阴阳应象大论》)等。
　　《素问》中集中了丰富多彩的治法，可谓“术之精”反映的又一个侧面。有从整体出发而决定的标本先后和逆从正反的不同治法，在《标本病传论》和《至真要大论》中有详尽的论述，指出“病发而有余，本而标之，先治其本，后治其标。病发而不足，标而本之，先治其标，后治其本。”“微者逆之，甚者从之。逆者正治，从者反治。”有从疾病的不同情况入手而采取各种不同治法的，分布于全书许多章节中。如以手法为主的针法、灸法、洗浴、熨贴、按摩(《玉机真藏论》)、导引(《奇病论)等法，以药物治疗为主的汗法(《玉机真藏论》)、下法(《热论》)、清法、消法(《六元纪大论》)、温法、补法、和法(《至真要大论》)等和放血(《三部九候论》)、食疗(《病能(态)论》)、隔离(《刺法论》)、康复(《热论》)等其它方法。
　　《素问》中汇集了精要的药物学知识，这也可以认为是“术之精”的反映。它运用了谷、生铁落、血余炭、泽泻、鸡矢白、乌贼骨、佩兰、辰砂、雄黄、雌黄、金箔等多种动物、植物、矿物作为治病的药物，并制成汤、丸、散、膏、丹等多种供内服和外用的不同剂型，有的用于疾病的预防，有的用于疾病的治疗，不仅开创了我国方剂学的先河，而且对后世方剂学的发展有着深远的影响。它对药物的认识也达到了相对臻善的程度，指出药物的性味与其作用于人体部位的关系是“味厚者为阴”，“阴味出下窍”;“气厚者为阳”，“阳味出上窍”(《阴阳应象大论》);与治疗的关系是“味厚则泄，薄则通”(同上);具体作用是“甘缓”、“辛散”、“酸收”、“苦燥”、“淡泄”、“咸泻”(《至真要大论》)等。
