About month ago all reading books and imported pdf files were gone. Around that time my iPhone XR was iOS 16.m.n, and the iCloud setting kept asking to acknowledge new agreement but when clicked into it, it kept failing for error of service unavailable.  I assumed it was due to my phone iOS version low then but no time to upgrade iOS before Christmas, so just ignored the error. Now my phone upgraded to the latest iOS 18.2 and passed the iCloud agreement, but my files in Books app not back!!

The old version worked great. The only change that was needed was to give readers the ability to copy small sections of text such as phrases, sentences, or paragraphs so they could be used in essays or exchanges with friends. Transcribing is so medieval. Surely technology exists to limit copying to say 2% of the total text in a book. However the new version of Apple Books did not introduce this feature. It simply added unneeded functions that required multistep and user unfriendly actions in strange quadrants that were randomly selected by a committee that then thankfully decided they needed to be make addressable by users. After all wouldn’t readers prefer doing this rather than spending time reading. The new version of Books was designed by Amazon infiltrators seeking to drive readers to the Kindle platform. In my opinion they/them have succeeded beyond Jeff Bezos’ wildest dreams.

How is it that books I purchased years ago and are in my library are no longer downloaded or available for me to redownload? What am I spending money on if not to have a digital copy of the book??
