You may have to go to preferences to adjust some things though the painting is by far the most realistic. This version is the same as the other one but it has an option to turn the colors metallic I think. You may wanna get the cheaper version if you don't care for that. It doesn't auto save like most apps, so when you exit it, it resets (edit: Yeah no art rage really tests my mental strength because I put in thirty minutes of work and I exited for one moment and it all dispeared) I'm going here every time I get angry at art rage cause sometimes I leave for another app or something for reference and when I come back an entire layer that i painted is gone cause ArtRage didn't save it it happens often. Also with with high resolutions it does this thing where it zooms in a bit and you can't zoom out and another thing I was painting and somehow the reference just disappeared from my screen even though it was on the tab. Ok I left for one second after I spent hours on a a painting and it being gone happened again I'm deleting this app I'm hitting my hand hurts from hitting the table and this is 5 dollars wasted
I don’t know why but suddenly the thumbnails all turned generic the the ArtRage logo. I have dozens of artwork and I now have to spend time opening each one to find it.
It would be nice to have an option to SEE the brush cursor/shape BEFORE I make a stroke. Like most digital painting software.
Big thanks to the developers of this art software. With Procreate’s lack of realistic color blending I gave up on using the iPad for art. Upon buying ArtRage Vitae and seeing it immediately mix blue and yellow to create a beautiful green color I am realizing there is hope for the future of art on the iPad. The sad grey mush you get when mixing blue and yellow in inferior art programs makes ArtRage Vitae a must-buy. Just hold your finger down on the color in the lower right to access the Real Color Blending. My Bob Ross dream is coming true.
ArtRage has always been a go-to for realistic digital painting especially for those who like a UI that’s familiar to fine artists, with a tray of brushes and media tools instead of a Photoshop-like interface. I’ve used AR for years but when I saw this new version I thought finally they updated this app which has never really changed in over a decade. Nope…still the same. It looks and behaves exactly like the original app. So what’s “Vitae” about it? Head scratcher. Still good and worth using but wonder why it exists unless purely to dupe original users into buying. Guilty!
Three times The app has crashed. Each time I lose all my work. I love the app. I hate the way it stores the work.
Glad to have ArtRage on an iPad pro. The tools are great but for me, ArtRage’s main feature is subtlety. Zoom in as much as you like, and you really don’t see pixels, just the transitions among color and intensity. None of my other great art tools do this. I’d like to see selections added to the iPad OS version..iPhone, too. The iPad version suffers from unreliable palm rejection, often resulting in the brush size widget appearing as you’re drawing, forcing you to scale the brush size up, then down, in order to dismiss it to resume seeing what you’re drawing. Would hope the devs would address this.
Nice features but useless when app continues to crash and all progress is lost.
I keep hoping artrage will impress me but I usually end up disappointed. Clunky U.I., lack of options, just O.K. Brushes that are often cumbersome to use and organized in a frustrating way. If you are a primarily traditional artist, and arent familiar with a lot of software, this might be good for you while you get used to digital art. But for me, an experienced digital artist, this is another letdown. Also, there is no excuse for not including 2 finger tap undo at this point. Its standard across many apps and it is SO frustrating when its not default, or an option.
