A shorter version of the ASTB called the Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR) is used by the U.S. Navy to select candidates for Officer Candidate School (OCS). These exams are used by the organizations discussed above to determine a candidate's future success in military officer training programs. A candidate must do well on the respective exams to have a better chance of being offered a commissioning slot. Furthermore, the better you do on the exams, the more opportunities you will have in the naval services. In this APP, you will have access to: ∙ 73 Lessons with review sections ∙ The ability to track your progress through the syllabus ∙ Over 140 flashcards to help you memorize pertinent information faster. ∙ Create and edit custom flashcards ∙ Over 600 sample test questions ∙ Unlimited Practice Tests using the same question logic as the actual exam (This is the only product out there currently doing this) ∙ Simulators to help you prepare for the UAV Component, Terrain Identification Component, and the Stick and Throttle Components of the PBM Test Section (This is the only product that offers this) ∙ Review errors made on the practice tests with the correct answer and explanations for select questions ∙ View previous test results and assess your progress The OAR is comprised of 3 subtests, the Math Skills Test (MST), Reading Comprehension Test (RCT), and Mechanical Comprehension Test (MCT). The ASTB incorporates 7 subtests, including the 3 subtests in the OAR. In addition, it includes the Aviation and Nautical Information Test (ANIT), Naval Aviation Trait Facet Inventory (NAFTI), Performance Based Measures Battery (PBM), and the Biographical Inventory with Response Validation (BI-RV). This app has lessons covering all of the tests discussed above so that the app will prepare you for the ASTB or OAR. Furthermore, it is the only product with a simulator to help you prepare for the UAV Component, Terrain Identification Component, and the Stick and Throttle portions of the PBM. The ASTB and OAR are digital tests, and they are not linear in the way questions are asked. Both tests use adaptive processing, and the software will ask questions of greater or lesser difficulty if the test taker answered the question correctly or incorrectly, respectively. This app has practice tests for the MST, RCT, MCT, and ANIT that incorporate the same question logic and scoring, and you will be able to take an unlimited amount of practice tests on the subjects you need to work on. Downloaded this app about 3 weeks before taking the ASTB for the first time for the USMC, did the knowledge tests for awhile until I was able to ace the engineering section, and tried to do an hour a day of the performance based tests, ended up getting a 7/8/7 and an air contract. The app is great for the UAV and terrain identification component, and by the end I was able to get an average of sub 2 seconds for the UAV and sub 10 for the terrain identification component. This directly translates to the ASTB!!! The main drawback though is that the stick and throttle section is not that great for practicing. For that I’d recommend going to the Air Warriors forum ASTB section. There you can find tons of advice as well as a great simulator program for practice. The OAR portion is fairly good at presenting information, however it does have some issues. An example would be the mechanical comprehension section when it has an example for average velocity the answer it gives is 136.39 mph for a car that went 5 miles in 22 minutes, when the answer should 13.63. Only issue is you cannot scroll on the Mac. We have both been using this app for the past year. This app recently came out on the mac app store around June 2024, which is incredibly helpful when it comes to the stick and throttle portion and uav portion of the astb. This makes everything about this app very similar to the actual exam. My buddy who is in the navy just took his astb the other day, after a few months of using the mac version of this app, and he got 9/8/8. This app was a huge help in me attaining those scores especially in the performance based measures section of the test. The UAV and terrain identification on this app is practically identical to the real test and I highly recommend using it to prepare. The material in the syllabus was also nice as it generally encompasses the majority of the material asked in the actual ASTB. However I have some critiques. Number 1, the MCT is 30 questions not 20. Number 2, The stick and throttle sim isn’t that useful. And number 3, I wish the ANIT test had more questions especially on the higher difficulty. I’ve taken it so many times now I’ve memorized it but there’s stuff I’m still not confident on yet. The knowledge was extremely helpful and unfortunately didn’t get through all of it before taking the test but if I got the chance to take it again I would get a X52 joystick a few months before for the UAV test and go through all the knowledge at least once along with practicing word problems. *wink wink* -- ZAcHSte, 2024-03-15 ### ***** "An Investment in Structure and Success" The ASTB-E is very unique test for which preparing can seem totally overwhelming. However, this app provides you with the only two things you ultimately need to be successful: a blueprint for your academic preparation and an array of simulators for your neuromotor performance. Use the syllabus to guide your studies. Dive deeper into subjects with which you’re unfamiliar, and test yourself on those you think you already are familiar. The structure allows you to ensure you’re allocating your time effectively which, for a test with such a wide range of material, is crucial. Make the simulators part of your daily routine - they are incredibly well-designed and true to the real test. Practice makes perfect, and the app makes practice convenient. Having been through the process myself now, I can say that this app is truly invaluable - worth every penny. Furthermore, the app developer in incredibly responsive, helpful, and committed to the product. My generation took the AQT-FAR test for flight school aptitude. My oldest is a Midshipman NROTC 2/c and used this prep as one of his primary pillars of study. His exam score was a 8/9/8. Max is 9/9/9. An 8/9/8 is considered an incredible score. On an exam where you only can take it 3 times and last full score counts, to score that high on the first test is amazing and a testament to how well this prep works. First, the UAV portion and Terrain Identification are worth the app on its own, but if you’re refreshing for some basic math concepts it’s frustrating when the answers aren’t present and the explanation is incorrect. The question I encountered (and took pictures of) was (11²/4)/(5^5 x 2). The right answer wasn’t present and during the review section after the fact it was solving for 5² instead of 5^5, which was presented in the question. -- Doug McGafferty, 2023-10-24 ### **--- "Mediocre" I used this app to study for the OAR. The only thing it really helped with was the mechanical comprehension. The math is all basic stuff and does not even begin to cover what is on the actual test.
