Description

AUM is the flexible audio mixer, recorder, and connection hub for your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
Connect hardware inputs and outputs, Audio Unit extensions, Inter-App Audio apps, Audiobus, soundfile players, built-in signal processing and filters, in any configuration you want.
Route anything to anywhere with mix-busses, effect sends, audiobus ports, and external multi-channel audio interfaces.
Play hosted synths and instruments using the built-in keyboard or external MIDI controllers, or sequence them with AU MIDI plugins or from other apps using Virtual MIDI.
Record mixes, individual tracks, or both, straight into the storage space of AudioShare (no copying of files needed), with synchronized start and end for perfect loops.
Play back recordings, soundfiles and loops as channel sources in the mixer for backing tracks, further processing or mixing. Soundfiles can be opened from anywhere, including USB drives on iOS 13 and later.
Route and filter MIDI in any way you like using the MIDI matrix. Combine and filter MIDI endpoints using MIDI buses.
Synchronize everything with the transport clock and play in time with other apps or devices using Ableton Link. Connect external music machines and synchronize them with MIDI Clock.
Includes built-in processing nodes for various stereo processing, Mid/Side balance and conversion, EQs and filters, limiting, clipping and saturation. Or use any 3rd party Audio Unit extension or Inter-App Audio effect.
All controls in the mixer can be controlled via MIDI, including parameters of hosted and built-in plugins.

Good technology, UI needs getting used to

instinctive_mediaworks on

First of all, this is technically a great app and apart from a few UI quirks (esp. when rotating the device) seems to be pretty solid. However, while the UI is certainly innovative, I'm not sure it is particularly user friendly, for the following reasons: - Too few visual hints. Many things are done using odd combinations of gestures, where a simple button would have sufficed. - No way to rename busses (AFAICS). So, you have to remember that Bus C is that short reverb, Bus F is the 3/8 delay, and Bus B is the master. - Many often needed operations require several successive taps, sometimes with an additional wait for an animation. - Low information density. Lots of empty space between interactive elements. Other than that, it's great to have a central Audio and MIDI routing hub!

App no longer saves plugin settings

An entire day of work lost when I reopened the file and EVERYTHING had default/init settings. Use at your own risk.

Not one app should have all that power!

This right here is the center-point for music production on iOS. I’ve recorded and made music on a lot formats, software and hardware, and AUM is on my top 3 lists of favorite music tools ever.

Absolutely great.

Musicians and music creators of all kinds have different needs, some will use it to perform live, some will use it to record but this mixer is truly a Swiss Army Knife for total music app alchemy it is definitely much more than a mixer and every time I use it I discover something new about it that surprises me. I think it’s a fantastic app.

Useful and reliable

This is the best iOS has to offer. As a professional musician I find the other apps, including the expensive DAWs, not ready for prime time. This app gives you the ability to design an environment you can run your entire performance on. No hiccups or flaws. If it weren’t for a few apps of this class on iOS, I would have gone back to Windows. This app does not disappoint.

This is the best workflow on any device.

I’ve been using this with AudioShare for years now and I really want to be able to use it on my brand new Mac. What’s it gonna take for you to make a version that is available and signed on the Macstore for macOS? I use logic and I believe this would be a very big compliment with logic. If we all pitched in a dollar we could get this thing rolling. It reminds me of the board that I trained on when I was younger. I trained on a very expensive pro tools board that was analog and digital, and the size of a cathedral hall. this makes everything so much easier. Please make this available for macOS for those of us that have the newer Mac’s. If you’re reading this, thanks for reading and I hope this inspires you because you are one talented developer. I hope that you’re able to port this over soon. This would complement logic very well. I don’t normally do reviews. AudioShare should also be ported over as it is indispensable in my workflow, I was trained to always cut and fade as they say in ProTools, but this made it so much easier with AudioShare and AUM. thank you for making music fun again.

What you get when a brilliant engineer designs and writes the app!

Design = A+ Absolutely Amazing Features = A+ All encompassing Functionalty = A+ This is where the engineer shows his knowledge of hardware and audio technology. The Design and Features are all wrapped up in a simple, yet powerful interface. Don’t be fooled by AUM’s simple appearance. This is an incredibly powerful program. A musician’s universal tool that everyone who’s creating music in iOS should learn how to use.

Essential

Great app needs to fix mic auto connecting when devices are disconnected

HeavySausage on

United States

This app needs a null audio device so you don’t get the mic when you disconnect a device. How is auto connecting the iPhone microphone a professional feature?

Doesn’t work as expected

Some routing features don’t seem to work with certain plugins that work fine in other daw apps.
