Australian Financial Review Reviews

Still a rubbish app

baj2022 on

Australia

Still so called upgrades that don’t fix backward steps on functionality. Makes me so angry I think I will just cancel my sub. In particular loss of article snip feature still not put back in.

Useless, pathetic upgrade

KalangBello on

Australia

How to stuff up an editorially excellent paper -- do a so-called 'upgrade' that makes it really difficult to use and incredibly frustrating to navigate. What dill didn't realise that being taken back to where you were previously reading is hugely important? Now, we're all having to do multiple clicks just to find out where we were. This has been going on for weeks now and still it hasn't been fixed. Why? It has the same (lack of) logic) that removed the blue tinting to show where to get the 'plain text' version of the story. The AFR management and staff fail to read reviews at their peril. And providing no link to give feedback on the actual site is insulting, arrogant and, seemingly, an attempt to avoid criticism, or even just helpful suggestions. Such a clever move -- now, people read the app's review in the App Store and decide not to download it at all, rather than get some sensible feedback in-app.

Quality App

This app feels very smooth, much better than the old buggy app. Keep it up

Can’t Update the App

Petershammy on

Australia

Hi, I’ve tried to update the AFR app and the SMH app and I can’t get them to work on my iPad. It completes the circle but doesn’t go to open app. Can you please have a look at the following issues with the app, One~you need to fix, the app remembering where you’ve been when you leave it go and look at something else. Two-the app needs to indicate whether the paper has been downloaded or has not been downloaded. It’s very hard to work out if you’ve downloaded it or not. Cheers.

“upgraded” app is a backward step :/

Brizza163 on

The updated app now requires internet access to work, meaning I can no longer open app to download/load stories on it prior to a flight for reading. Need to bring this back!

‘Upgraded’ app reduces functionality

AppleM24 on

Australia

The app ‘upgrade’ a few weeks ago seems to have reduced its functionality. In particular, if you leave the app, it no longer remembers which page you were on in Today’s Paper (or even which edition), which means constantly having to flip through pages or scroll through the contents to find where you were up to (if you can even remember). It’s now also difficult to see which editions you’ve downloaded, so you can be left without access to Today’s Paper if you’re off wifi or mobile access. In the previous version, it was clear from the blue highlighting where you should click to get a plain text version of an article - now I seem to accidentally click on invisible hyperlinks all the time. The old version of the app was far from perfect, but this latest version feels like it has gone backwards. As an avid reader of the AFR and daily user of the app, it’s become very frustrating!

Doesn’t remember which page you were reading

Everytime you exit the app when reading todays paper, it goes back to page 1 ugh.

The new todays paper reading experience is a step backward

Lloyd’s review on

Australia

I’m rating the app not the content. The new ‘todays paper’ reading experience is a step backward. The old experience was much better. The recent changes should be undone.

Easy to subscribe; difficult to cancel!

ICMHo on

Australia

It took me to wait half-an-hour on the phone to talk to an agent to cancel the subscription. Cancellation should be a standard feature in managing account.

Please support Universal Links so AFR links open in the app where I’m signed in, not in the browser, where I’m not signed in.
