## AustralianETA Description
Apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) to travel to Australia.

An Australian Government mobile app that you can use to lodge an Australian ETA application. The ETA allows eligible passport holders to travel to Australia for short-term stays for tourism or business visitor purposes. 

It is recommended that you apply well ahead of when you want to travel. It is suggested that you do not make travel arrangements until your ETA has been granted. See the ETA website to find out more and check your eligibility to apply:

I used this app one year ago and everything went well. I had to use it again on August 24 and it could not capture the picture of my European passport regardless what I tried. 
I delete the app, use another phone and expend my day and patience trying to avoid the glare of the picture … among others.
Thank God the support center of the Australian immigration authority was very helpful in giving orientations.
 I applied for other type of Visa on the web site and it  resolute very quickly . 
Hope the developer can solve the issue soon.

App was a initially a breeze to use…
Pretty straightforward instructions with videos to assist the process. Scan Singapore passport. Read chip. Take photo. Apply. Pay the AUD$20. 
Got my 601 visa approved within minutes, on the app and via email.

*Note for later: I am also applying almost 12 days before my flight.

Unfortunately - because of the way the app also works, apparently it may put a whole chunk of your name into Family name. See their text below.

‘Check that the information below is exactly as it appears in the applicant's passport.
For some passport types the applicant's given name will appear in the family name field. If the applicant's name is longer than 24 characters, the name will be shortened to 24 characters. Please do not rescan the applicant's passport in these cases as the information is displaying correctly.’

This meant that my entire full name was recorded in Family name and there was no way to change it as every column was “locked”.

Then came the day to check in for my flight. 48 hours before. To my horror and also chagrin, Singapore Airlines (SQ), both the app and online version - did not recognise me, and we unable to sync my visa to their records.
They kept saying that Valid Visa required.
But I already have one! From 10 days ago!

So yes, unfortunately due to the limitations in which either this ETA Australia app reads, accepts and analyse data from your biometric passport or how SQ (Singapore Airlines) records names, you will find yourself in a “panic situation” where you are unable check in at all, and only hope that the counter staff can find a solution to it when you check in at the airport.

Why this unnecessary anxiety when I literally applied 12 days before my flight to ensure a seamless process and avoid all problems?

Additionally, in the app itself NEVER EVER click on Support and then Security. You get log out of the app entirely, and look your entire profile in it, visa and all. You literally have to go thru the entire process of putting in your profile (scan, read, photo, security questions) all over again. Thankfully I didn’t have to pay again - as the app still recognises a visa attached to the passport. But oh boy! What an “adventure”…

I renewed my passport and has a new passport number. I paid and resubmit again for a new ETA and scanned my new passport details and photo.
My email notify my ETA was granted but my old passport number was still not amended. I wrote to the help desk giving my ETA application transaction no #1707-2890 dated 13/6/24 only to receive an email reply from the etas.replies that automated message that this mailbox  will not be actioned. pls do not reply..
Australia Home Affairs ministry should review their apps to make it more user friendly for overseas users.
Anyway, I deleted my Applicant profile in the apps and then paid again to apply for a new ETA today and hope that everything will be fine.
