The best ever!
My hand-held GPS is now obsolete! This app works with the satellite GPS chip in your phone to allow easy and reliable GPS navigation while offline. No cell service needed. I put my phone in airplane mode to put it to the test, and it totally works. You can download USGS topos to use off line for free, and many helpful maps are available to purchase as well. This app is the best!!
Great for the backcountry
As someone who is used to carrying around expensive physical maps for backpacking, these offline maps coupled with your phone’s gps are a game-changer. It’s really hard to get lost. Just keep your phone dry ; )
Unannounced TOS/Subscription Changes
It appears you have changed the licensing for the Plus tier so it no longer includes unlimited imports but is instead restricted to 20. This is not reflected anywhere on your website that I can see. It is also not reflected in the app description on the Apple App Store. My existing Plus subscription is now labeled as "Avenza Maps Plus (Legacy)". The new basemap satellite layer feature available to Plus subs listed in the 5.3 app update is not available to me unless I "convert" my legacy license to the new one with the new import restrictions. This kind of shady behavior will lead me to stop using and paying for this app. Can you provide a justification for this change, the reason it is not documented anywhere, and why it was not communicated to existing customers before implementation? ** I did attempt to post this in the ‘Community -> Maps Q&A’ on the website first, but after 11 days the post has still not been “approved” and isn’t visible to anyone, nor has there been a response. **

Best mapping software for reliability
Extremely helpful. Extremely capable.
Once you understand the benefit of a geo-referenced map you’re hooked. You can use your phone, don’t need a paper map, you know EXACTLY where you are, and you don’t need cell coverage because the app uses your phone’s internal GPS signal. Pros- use your cell phone, don’t need cell coverage, excellent for spots where several trails meet in a short area, see topo lines on many maps, configure app to use battery only when the app is open, some maps are free. Cons- finding the exact map you need can be difficult, some maps are spendy, no info about local area - literally just a map.
Frustration!!
I've been using Avenza for a couple years now and would like to view the intricate maps I've created on more than the tiny screen on my phone. Upgraded to the recreational subscription, and I am unable to sign in on anything except my phone. Only option is to upgrade to a pro version which is not what I want to do. Needs seamless interaction with Desktop, iPad, work phone, personal phone. Has none of this.
Can’t get lost
Awesome app that show exactly where I am on park map while hiking trails. If I walk just 10 feet, the app displays this. Very satisfied & will use this for all my MN state park visits.
