I get that the app is funded by advertising outside the UK.
If there was a way to pay for the advertising to go away, I would consider it.
Advertisements embedded in the news stories interrupt other audio playing while I am READING the news. 
Either stop using advertising media which interrupts other media already playing or offer a means to pay to stop advertising in the app.

I've been a happy user for more than a decade now.
Unfortunately the latest major update no longer allows me to select and copy text for looking up in other apps, such as a web browser. I don't quite understand the reasoning for disabling this feature, given that the web site has the same content without that restriction.
This significantly reduces the value of this app for me.

UPDATED APRIL 2024: 
The latest iteration of the app brings an improved layout, reminiscent of a newspaper. While I am still not convinced that this is better than the original app, it is a big improvement on the previous ‘new design’.
The Search function is back, although somewhat hidden in ‘More’, but they have added a Save function here which is a useful addition. 
‘My News’ has, sadly, not returned with this version, so you still cannot select your favourite topics to construct your own ‘newspaper’.
Overall, a huge improvement, but still not what it was.

I wish i had something nice to say, I really do. I don’t know why everyone has to fix things if not broken. Old app was claasic , the distinguish Red colour with white, neat and tidy news stories font.
New black colour looks silly, like some temporary online protest, it’s hard to see the application on screen. The new News stories font look Messy; it’s almost like they are copying the NY Times. BBC was my first and last stop to get the news for over 10 years. It ends now.

The latest upgrade (downgrade in reality) is pretty poor tbh; where I previously had customisable news which I had tailored to my interests on the app, it’s now a ‘one size fits all’ where you just see whatever the BBC thinks you should be reading about and have to spend ages searching for the topics you are actually interested in. Very disappointing user experience and far inferior to the last version.
