BBC: World News & Stories Reviews

Intrusive advertising

LumpyWallet on

New Zealand

I get that the app is funded by advertising outside the UK. If there was a way to pay for the advertising to go away, I would consider it. Advertisements embedded in the news stories interrupt other audio playing while I am READING the news. Either stop using advertising media which interrupts other media already playing or offer a means to pay to stop advertising in the app.

Don’t upgrade to the latest version

SoMarkAngry on

New Zealand

After upgrade to latest version, I can’t select/lookup words for dict translation.

Poor design

MorganDunn on

New Zealand

The BBC website is faster and more interactive on a mobile than this latest version of the app and so there is no reason to use the app.

What the hell happened?

HeydonM on

New Zealand

People download the BBC App for the news. The ‘live’ tab no longer has audio. The UI is atrocious and blatantly just a web interface for the website now, with no caching of news stories. How did you manage to ruin what was the best news app when you’re the most reputable news agency on the planet?

Frustrating App

Howie!!!!!!!!!!!!! on

New Zealand

The new Stuff app is highly frustrating , it is slow and often crashes.

Ads without prompting

jsvxucksz on

New Zealand

As well as being a desktop-style downgrade from the previous app, making it harder to find what you might be looking for, the advertisements pop without even being on screen and certainly not clicked on. Really poor - think I will get my news from a well functioning app like Al Jazeera or something.

Advert automatically playing a video

Knickknackknanus on

New Zealand

Getting difficult to use the app - scrolling through news and suddenly I'm watching a video for an advert i didn't click on. This is happening very regularly. Very frustrating and almost unusable

Update has many bugs

PJSNelson on

New Zealand

DO NOT DOWNLOAD - the updated app has many bugs. It currently goes to a blank black screen and then an advertisement loads around 10 seconds later. You then close the advertisement and it reverts to a blank screen. BBC, your better than this, fix it up

Wish the update

hshsjdjje on

New Zealand

It was can translate by iOS conveniently but now I can’t select the word from my phone it is not friendly to who English is not really good

Select/Copy text disabled

brickyluke on

New Zealand

I've been a happy user for more than a decade now. Unfortunately the latest major update no longer allows me to select and copy text for looking up in other apps, such as a web browser. I don't quite understand the reasoning for disabling this feature, given that the web site has the same content without that restriction. This significantly reduces the value of this app for me.
