Description

Barbecuing with charcoal is the only way to achieve that unbelievable succulent, tantalizing flavor. Whether you're cooking beef brisket, pork ribs, or chicken wings, the key ingredients to mastering delicious barbecue are the perfect mix of time and temperature. Conquering this slow cooking process allows the tough, chewy protein fibers in meat to break down and transform into incredibly tender barbecue. The problem is that charcoal is notoriously difficult to control and wild temperature fluctuations can result in tough, dried, or burnt meat. Powered by smart technology, the BBQ Guru temperature control devices easily avoid this disaster by remotely measuring the internal temperature of your foods and effortlessly maintaining the precise cooking temperature inside your grill. The revolutionary DynaQ and UltraQ controllers take outdoor cooking to the next level with the Guru Status Light Ring. At a glance, you can get visual feedback on the status of your cooking temperature and the operation of the control. In addition, you can use this app to monitor or update your BBQ Guru temperature control device via Bluetooth or WiFi to achieve perfect predictability and consistency with your cooks without needing to hover by the cooker. You can also setup email and text notifications, so you’ll always know the most up-to-date status of your BBQ. Whether you’re in your backyard playing with the kids, relaxing by the pool, or hanging out with friends and family, a quick check on your phone over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi ensures your food is on target.

UltraQ WiFi terrible

El Guero1 on

App is more than adequate for my purpose in Bluetooth range. But is a major fail with WiFi. Constantly freezing or dropping connection even with strong signal. Avoid!!!

Hardware is fine. App seriously needs a developer upgrade

ScubaGuyNNWFla on

I have ribs on my BGE as I write this. As an old BBQ Guru competitor user, I can say the new Ultra Q hardware is as good as the original models. The BBQ Guru app, however, is completely FUBAR even after many upgrades and versions. It needs to pretty much have the code thrown out and start over with a strongly skilled programmer who has actually used it to cook brisket, butt or Ribs. Right now, I can get Bluetooth and WiFi to work pretty well except the chart and app lock when moving in and out of Bluetooth range. Forget trying to use the stupid timer. I simply wanted an alarm after 3 hours to wrap my ribs, but the timer freezes the app when trying to set it about half the time. If I close and reopen the app when it is frozen, Bluetooth and WiFi come back but the timer resets to the last time I set or updated the time to start the alarm. I keep hoping a 3rd party will develop an app that works better with the great BBQ Guru hardware.

Loses connection

d dubs15 on

App is very buggy and loses connection constantly. Share my cook is an absolute joke. When you lose connection you have to log back into and start a new cook. Tracking temps on this is very frustrating. Smobot is way better, but they don’t make one for the Blaze.

It does what is supposed to do.

I’ve done a few cooks with the UltraQ. I’ve had better connectivity once I disconnected from BT and only used WiFi. It's still somewhat buggy because making changes during the cook can freeze the app. During my last cook, BT was off, and I used WiFi with good results. One thing I’ve noticed is that the BEST WAY to use this device is this: 1-set it up once, 2-don’t tinker too much, 3-note your vent settings of the last cook; I also used a sharpie for my fan and mark around where I stay @ around 225 for low and slow cooks, 4- let the guru do what the guru does, let it take over and let go, resist the urge to tinker with the cook. Today I’m making a chuck roast and a pork butt, and I can say I’m pleased with how the device is working. It would be very nice if some of these little tips and tricks were on their website rather than one finding out, which can lead to frustration and poor user experience, which is counterproductive. I’m sure the people at BBQ Guru have put a lot of effort into this device and app; I hope they come up with the app improvements needed; it could also help to have a forum for users on the website to exchange experiences and make it a better system. I own an UltraQ and a DigiQ; I like the DidiQ, which is a pretty solid device. The UltraQ is AS SOLID as the DigiQ; it is just that the app doesn’t help the device deliver a seamless user experience. The only issue with my cook today was shutting down the BT, and the app didn’t show the soft button to access the Share My Cook feature. But I must admit that I could better control the UltraQ via WiFi alone than BT and WiFi. There's always room for improvement.

Truly awful

Jyetsi on

I’ve had this for years with my Weber Smokey mountain. It has worked 50% of the time at best. App is terrible, Bluetooth connection is very spotty and is disconnected more of the time than not. The frustrations this app and device cause make using it with my cooks actually worse than just not using it at all.

Don’t waste your money

BiggerTexan on

They will stop supporting your device without warning and make you buy a new device which will still have problems with sharemycook. I have a cyberq cloud which still works fine manually. I didn’t have a problem when their mobile app ceased to support my device because they said I could use sharemycook. Then they changed that to a much worse interface that claims to record my device buts it’s inaccurate and has a terrible display. You can’t control any settings remotely anymore. I will never buy anything from these guys again. And it’s not just my device. They stop support on several other versions as well. Blatant money grab and waste creation.

Horrible

CobbsQ on

This thing is so buggy. Every time I make a change to my cyber cute cloud temperature settings. Half the time it freezes and I have to completely close the app and do it all over again get it to accept the change. I miss the website. I miss the ease of configuration. this needs to be redone. I don’t hold a lot of faith in this to alert me any longer. I know I hit a temperature spike last night and I got zero alerts nor texts. Please fix this or bring back the website that worked 100%.

BBQ Guru has gone to trash

RobDaug on

I have been a longtime fan and user of BBQ guru. However, the ultra Q and this app are pure trash. If you want an exercise in frustration trying to keep the device connected to either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, this app and device are for you. Despite using this brand for over a decade, it is time to start looking elsewhere. UPDATE 1 Jan 24: Still absolute garbage! Not only does the devices bluetooth and wifi not work with the app or online, the company “updated” their platform and users lost everything to include most cook history and recipes stored in their online feature website. Not even a warning, just gone! Now stuck with this expensive garbage product and non-functioning app. Stay away.

Horrible product

pitstyles on

Just opened a brand new unit I got for Christmas. WiFi doesn’t work at all. Horrible product.

Absolutely The WORST APP EVER

FREEZETIME8SIXTEEN on

This app crashes, doesn’t open or disconnects constantly. I regret buying the UltraQ because of this hot steaming pile of garbage app. Avoid this half baked company and their app at all costs.
