I’ve made use of the Notes app for years. But its lack of many useful formatting features, and its horrible misuse of Gmail for its cloud storage, incented me to look for an alternative. Bear was just what I was looking for. A free app with great formatting, easy grouping through tagging, and rock solid performance. I now use Bear for almost all my note taking, and it’s my go to app for anything I want to record in free-floating text. Thanks Bear!
The UI is clean and easy to use. Organizing notes by tags is super powerful
Bear is simple, clean, intuitive, and powerful. The tagging system is so incredibly robust, sync is fast and reliable, and export options are fantastic. Can't recommend it enough! Has just enough features but they're hidden until you need them, always a clean and minimal space to produce text on. Love Bear!
Hi developer,yes im talking to you. The one with bags under their eyes and probably lack of sleep,for long I was looking for an app that help me as a writer,and I think I finally found it,thanks for existing and I hope both sides of your pillow are cold every night, if you are a writer,don’t be Carried away by the bad reviews,this app offers everything a writer like you and me could look for and their paid options are not overwhelming,more like optional. (Sorry Mr/Ms/Mrs.developer there’s no budget right now )
Can we have an option for dashed list? I don’t like bulleted or numbered lists.
Updated, for the sake of innocent readers and my reviewer credit... This is a very lovely app, and that is coming from someone who does not like bears or "boring" notes apps. When it comes to beauty, Bear beats the vast majority of other notes apps. Functionality, however, is another story. The tag feature is...interesting, but what would be better is a by-file organization system. The by-tag system that the developers condone is messy and not pretty. Besides, why waste time adding all the "#lalaloopsey" nonsense when you could have created the note within the file it needs to go in? It is not as if it disturbs the flow of typing... Two important features—exportation and locking—are behind the infernal wall of subscription. I do not need either that much, thank you! (I never said they were useless.) Locking is free with Notes. However, exportation is NOT available with Notes at all—I knew that—but Bear also locks it. For a free user, there is still lots of copying, pasting, and possibly eMailing to do. In conclusion, Bear looks better than Notes, but looking better is Bear's sole advantage, besides expo for those who do not mind paying for one-trick-pony apps. Be real, Apple editor: It is no better than yours. (I know "they" have to say is better; I will not judge them for that.)
I'm a long-time Obsidian user who finally got tired of how poorly their app works on iPad. I tried a few alternatives, and Bear ended up being the perfect fit - a note editor that focuses on content, and gives me the flexibility to organize my library however I want. It's fast, even with hundreds of notes, and works great with modern iPad features, such as split view and keyboard support. I highly recommend this app, it's definitely worth a try

This app is literally the best notes app! I like how it’s on Apple Watch, so I can directly write notes on go, now and then, and the cool fact that you can the # on any note. But- When I ask Siri to add a bear note, it doesn’t work. Is there a way to fix this? Anyway, this app is not only for notes, but also for To-Do’s. So this app deserves a good 10\10.😁👍
Removing the search long press functionality has made this app less useful and I’ve started to move more and more of my usage away from Bear.
