Description

Explore a whole new galaxy with your child, where therapy isn't so distant. The interactive home therapy tool was created by Allied Health Professionals, for children aged 5-14, to target the common symptoms that children with Dyspraxia or Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) can experience.
The gamified exercise application by Beats Medical can be used at home, on your own device. We provide engaging activities to support children in the development of crucial skills, with three separate programs to target gross motor, fine motor, speech and communication. Each program has a variety of evidence-based exercises to promote learning, engagement and enjoyment.
In general, it can be difficult for a child to receive daily in-clinic treatments from allied-health professionals. The Beats Medical Dyspraxia App is not intended to replace specialist care, but to augment it with games and therapies delivered at home through an app.
The app is versatile and entertaining to keep your child engaged in these important functional activities. The therapy-based exercise app is aimed at improving independence through tackling task orientated functional activities, relevant to daily life.
Blast across a galaxy of interactive therapies:
Gross Motor Galaxy
Our Space Cadet Training cards allow children to work on developing physical strength, spatial awareness, balance and co-ordination, through gamified exercises. This incorporates imaginative physical tasks and storytelling to keep children interested and inspired in physical activity. The activities can be used under the guidance of parents, teachers or allied health professionals.
Fine Motor Meteor
Our dexterity section includes evidence-based exercises aim to develop fine motor skills such as handwriting, co-ordination, accuracy, fine hand opposition and upper limb control. To target these skills, children can complete the following exercises:

I downloaded the app, then signed up and registered. Go to open up the APP and nothing. Just their homepage with the circle of death just spinning and spinning. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the App 3 times. Still nothing.

Excellent App

Overall I found this app fantastic. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars as opposed to 5 stars is that I found the Speech & Communication section difficult to figure out. To be honest, I didn’t really need that section, as my son, age 11, with Dyspraxia, has difficulties with fine motor and gross motor skills. The app is very child friendly, and very suitable for my boy who is obsessed with planets and galaxies etc. This is the theme of the app. There are 3 areas: Fine motor, Gross Motor, and Speech and Communication. Within Fine Motor there are 4 games or activities, 2 of which my son enjoyed, the other 2 he struggled to master. The games focused primarily on pinching and dragging, using the thumb and forefinger. The instructions were very clear, and were written and read out for you. Within gross motor, definitely the best section, in my opinion, are a wide tandem of exercises to work on building the core, and also improving balance. There are ball exercises also. These exercises are identical to the exercises that my son has received from his private OT. Those sessions set me back over €500 for every 6 week block!! The app costs a fraction of that. Again, the instructions are very clear, and there are pictures of the exercises, along with a written description, difficulty rating and telling you to time the exercise or not. I was looking at this app from two different perspectives, as a mother of a boy with Dyspraxia, and also as a Special Needs Coordinator in a Post Primary Secondary school. My son has struggled with his diagnosis, and isn’t always eager to do the exercises. However, he found using the app to be novel and was more keen on doing his daily routine, using my phone, as opposed to his usual daily exercises and activities. I can honestly say that it is definitely worth the investment.

Free Trial in the future

Would love to use this for a 4 year old who needs all the therapy he can get, but have been disappointed by so many promising apps who promise more than they give or don’t meet the level of abilities they say they do for children. It would be nice to know what I’m getting for my money first. A free trial period would be nice, even if it was only for a few days.

Excellent
