How much does Beelinguapp cost?
Beelinguapp has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is $34.09.
I found the progression to advanced words very quick, and not suitable for an absolute beginner. The vocabulary should have been limited, but often more advanced words were used in the A1.x tree. I really love the app and all the features, but the vocabulary needs to be whittled down.
One Minor Issue (Edit: Nevermind)
This app is lovely for language learning, and doubles as a fun way to keep up with modern events through free daily news stories! It's an extremely handy app, although I do have one issue: I wish it were possible to show and hide the translation in your native language. The user spends a lot more of their time reading the version of the text in the target language rather than their native language, and while the native language translation is helpful for quickly deciphering meaning upon running into new expressions, it unfortunately just gets in the way once you achieve a level of skill around the B1 or A2 level.
Edit: Ah, I wasn't aware of its location within the UI, and I would like to apologize. My review has been updated to five stars!
Sooooo buggy
So buggy I can’t even finish anything. Every story ses before it’s finished and any game closes after one question… I’m going to do my trial for a few days but I’m not renewing for the year.
Misleading marketing?
For some reason, in the description pictures, they show several flags with national languages which are not offered in the app.
It doesn’t really matter, but it’s a rather strange thing to do.
Cool concept though.
Premium
There used to be a decent amount of content you could get from the regular version, but now you have to pay to read basically anything on the app.
Used to be good
Used to be good, but now they’re using AI generated voices and they sound terrible. It sounds like the speaker is in a fish tank
Good but
Hey I remember using this app years ago for a fairly popular language and it worked great. I came back to use it for another, very unpopular language, so I’m not surprised it’s not available in the list. That part is fine and I totally understand. The issue comes when you press the “other language” button. I press it and type the language in, and there is no way for me to submit the suggestion. The keyboard is in the way and it in non-collapsible
Great idea sloppy execution
Like the idea but execution is sloppy at best
No help no hints no support on top of a bad and buggy UI
eg when a word is marked as memorized it still shows in the stack, when all words marked as memorized the story is Stil in the list, no way to customize the interface, no way to customize Flashcards so the new Flashcard is just the word in the grammatical form as in the text and so many more problems wit this app..
Cancel service
There is no way I can cancel my year subscription, I’ve tried everything
Somewhat useful, premium isn’t worth it
I downloaded this app when I was recommended it for reading Japanese. The stories are good so far, although hard to practice because I haven’t learned much Kanji as a Beginner 2. I wish they’d have annotations of the kanji words in Hiragana/Katakana so I can sound it out. Otherwise it’s decent.
The premium, on the other hand, totally not worth it in my opinion. I started the trial to access the vocabulary feature. When I tried it, the voice recognition was incredibly annoying to use. It would only capture my voice 40% of the time, regardless if I held the microphone button down or not. The playback audio for the Japanese pronunciation was muffled and unclear, so it was hard to tell certain sounds from one another.
Since that feature wasn’t working for me, I decided to look at the ‘unlimited music’ options. I thought it’d be songs in the language we’re learning with the translation to follow along. Nope. Just English songs with the Japanese characters before. Honestly it doesn’t help if I can’t read those characters to begin with.
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, or what, but my experience with the premium wasn’t very good. In any case, I’ll probably keep the free version to read a bit but overall, 2/5.
