## BitCam Description
A blast from the past!

Capture your photos with a unique 1-bit camera: only pure black and pure white pixels, no grayscale!

BitCam's interface is delightfully old school, featuring chunky buttons and mechanical sounds the likes of which haven't graced your screen in over 40 years.

In Camera mode, three different pixel resolutions let you experiment, and an 8-color mode brings you a little closer to the current day while preserving the distinct aesthetic.

Or jump over to the editor to dither any photo from your library and experiment with resolutely modern colors & gradients.
Clean, high resolution PNG output means you can print those files, use them in digital collages, or other art projects.

You can also now run BitCam natively on your iPad, and your Mac!

The camera mode is entirely free and unlimited. The editor mode offers a free trial, after which it requires a one-time in-app purchase for full access, on all of your account's devices.

## BitCam Reviews in United States

### ***-- "New update seemingly broke color mode in Photos edit widget"
After working great for many years and retroactively scanning photos I took with my SLR into 8-bit glory, the app kept asking me to install color graphics in the Photos edit mode. Color works fine when taking pictures still, just not for altering existing photos. I can still save black & white scans from the edit widget.
-- The_Great_G, 2025-10-12

### ***** "Perfect"
I don’t think I can put into words the little tickle in my heart I get when I see the color photos taken with this app. It’s not a filter. You can zoom in and see all the chunky little bits of color making up the image and that alone is worth 10x the price I paid.
-- 900tones, 2025-06-27

### ***** "Love this camera"
It’s fun. Thank you.
-- Laureatesasis, 2023-08-16

### ***** "Fun retro camera"
If you enjoy dithering and one-bit graphics, this is a great app for it! Characteristic of any Iconfactory app it is well-designed and well-executed. The theming is really fun.

The only thing it’s missing which I’d like to see is the ability to adjust the brightness threshold (or the pre-dithering exposure level). Sometimes it would be nice to tweak the process a bit to make the image look better.

p.s. I was tickled to see this app finally updated after six years, so here, have a review! :)
-- Agnes Nutter, Witch, 2023-06-03

### ***** "Hahaha I love you folks so much!"
See you in seven years, indeed. Here’s to that!
-- Velophile, 2023-06-02

### ***-- "Cool app, but buggy."
App freezes after you share to someone. Bad experience given I’ve paid for the color version. If you’re gonna make a user pay, whatever is in the app better be flawless.
-- alexanderworldpeace, 2020-05-26

### **--- "Turn"
Why does the picture turn sideway when saved in photo album and can’t get it to turn upright
-- Lynchmobsiab, 2020-05-19

### ***** "Edit existing photo?"
I do laser engraving and this app would make it easy

But unfortunately it doesn’t let you edit existing photos

Update: fantastic and the best results of any dither app on the App Store, please continue to support this program as it will help my business as well!
-- Capt_Obvious_, 2020-01-10

### ***** "*LOVE* this app, but it needs an update!"
The folks at Iconfactory are the best (if you’re a Mac-using artist or designer, you *must* check out XScope!). This is such a great app, but it hasn’t been updated in 2 years+!! Can you please update it for the iPhone X & Xs screens, at least? Pretty please??

Please note: I haven’t even marked down your rating in an attempt to force you to do my bidding! 🤪

[Seriously though, keep up all your awesome work. I just downloaded Linea Sketch for my new 11-inch iPad Pro, too.]
-- Johnny-o-doc, 2018-12-04

### ***** "great app"
having a lot of fun with this.just bought color upgrade, but for the life of me i cant figure out how to access my photos to be edited.i tried following your instructions and all i'm able to see are the basic options on the far left.maybe i'm being incredibly thick here, but i don't see any "edit" screen .pls help.
