Firmware update over the air
You can access your dashcam through a direct connection via Wi-Fi. Once connected, you can access all the videos stored on the dashcam's microSD card, adjust the camera angle, and modify BlackVue's settings as needed. You can also apply firmware updates wirelessly (FOTA).
BlackVue Cloud is a dedicated service for BlackVue users that allows you to access your BlackVue from anywhere at any time. Creating a BlackVue Cloud account is simple and free. After creating an account, you can register your Cloud-compatible BlackVue in the app and configure it to connect to your hotspot.

TL;DR: if you are selling a hardware product and also pitching a membership service, then you’ll eventually be thinking about removing device features unless the users pay for the membership.

This is what is happening to BlackVue. Don’t buy in. Don’t let friends buy in.

New UI looks nice but it’s tough to care when it’s got so many issues.

1) For the love of god figure out a way for the app to save my login details. There is zero reason for me to have to log in every time I want to pull a single clip.

2) Constant playback errors. Software is updated to the absolute latest version, by the way. Just updated 60 seconds ago.

3) Connecting to camera via local Wi-Fi is about as inconsistent as it gets.

One star review for now because it’s barely useable, but I will update it if things improve.

I cannot play back video at all, I just keep getting “playback error, please try again” on every video. I have service, I pay for the hotspot, I can connect live and see just fine. But I can’t get a single video to play back since the update. This is frustrating and a little sad. As a software developer myself, I would expect better.

### *---- "What a fall from grace for BlackVue"
What a fail with this new app… laggy controls, and constant connectivity issues… how has the best dash cam company made such bad software. At the end of the day it’s all about user experience and this is probably one of the worst by a mile! 900 plus for the hardware and this many issues for something that should be stable for just local connectivity is abhorrent to me. I can’t recommend this company anymore. I think my next dash cam will have to be with another company unfortunately which sucks… I hope they can turn it around… till then I won’t be back.

I had to reformat my SD card to get the video playback to work again. Thankfully didn’t need any of the videos on there but I can see the developers are fixing bugs as they come up so that’s a good sign they’re listening to the reviews - that I appreciate !

Now requires account just to use in wi-fi mode.  Do not buy a BlackVue cam!

Response to Blackvue…once is too many.  No need to create an account, don’t want to use it online or in cloud.  When I log in just that once I’m forced to agree to a bunch of data sharing and other terms right?  Thought so.  DON’T BUY!

App still have a long run but its way better than before im a long time blackvue costumer right now im facing the issue with the playback videos and its frustrating because exactly today i meed to download a super important footage but i cant because playback are not working for almost the whole day but hey blackvue has been workimg I remember when the app use to have 30 coments now they are getting way better they are staying consistent and also i have promote their cameras to most of my frieds and thats how also you get better by promoting it dont matter if is for free but im very happy with this camera some issues but it will get better i guess

App is frozen every time i open it.  Even after closing the app from the app manager.  I doubt blackvue will do anything to address this.  They are as awful with updating their app software as they are with their awful camera quality; that’s seriously awful btw.

### *---- "Great cameras, but the latest app failed me and I will never own another one"
I have owned BlackVue cameras for 7 years and have them in all my vehicles. The app has always been mediocre but it always got the job done... until I needed it most.

I was the witness of an accident that I captured on my dashcam. I pulled over so I could download the footage and provide it to the victims and law-enforcement, but this time when I opened the app I was greeted by a screen forcing me to make a cloud account in order to download the footage STORED LOCALLY ON THE CAMERA SD CARD with no way to skip it!

So here I am at 2 in the morning, exhausted, on the side of the road, trying to create an account and verify my email address so I can pull the footage off the SD card. And since the cell service in my area is horrible I was getting nothing but timeouts and errors. I ended up apologizing and getting their email address instead and went home and got he video off the SD card instead using my laptop and sent them a link for them to download it.

I have done nothing but rave about the quality of these cameras for the whole time I have owned them and recommended them to everyone I know. I was even going to buy their expensive 3 camera kit when I get my new car. But the ONE time in all my years of ownership that I actually need the app to work reliably for a critical situation and it failed me miserably, because of this absolutely ******* account requirement.

I have removdd all of my BlackVues and will never own another one after this, and I encourage everybody to do the same now.

Also the App Store crashed right as I went to submit this review, so this is the SECOND time I had to type all this out and now I'm even more annoyed about it.

I'm new to this Dash Cam as I received it as a gift. I'm pleased with the quality of video, but accessing the videoclips and using this App is not the easiest.

Purchases four years ago the people that installed it never knew how to use it. I’ve never been able to figure out how to use it. It’s been the biggest waste of money and I really need this product because we pull horses and a fifth wheel RV. No tech-support nobody can contact for help Cost a lot of money. It’s been a waste of money.

I really hope BlackVue changes course on this, requiring me to sign in to an account, have WiFi/data, just to connect locally to my camera is really unnecessary. I just want to use the app to download and preview files from my camera, that’s it. My cameras will be gone soon if this doesn’t change, such a clunky app for non cloud users.

Updated the app and now I can’t use wi-fi to view videos.  It’s bizarre my phone connects to dash cam network, but the app won’t recognize the link and won’t let me add camera to the list. After few attempt to connect app closes on its own. What a joke!

It may have fixed things for other but it broke an important feature on mine.  I am no longer able to see or get / access to the additional Battery B130….
At first I thought it was me but then I tried to see one of my other cars batterie B124… same problem.  That’s when I knew it was not on my doing.  It says “the cloud am has been disconnected…” yet I am able to remotely access everything just not the battery anymore.  It works over Bluetooth next to the unit just fine.  Just not remotely anymore.
