Gaming Unplugged

Published by: BoardGameGeek

Description

This is the official app for BoardGameGeek, an online resource and community that aims to be the definitive source for board game and card game content. Daily new content, continuously updated by millions of passionate users, makes ‘the Geek’ the largest and most up-to-date place to get gaming information. You can become a registered member of BoardGameGeek (BGG) for free, and we welcome your contributions in the form of ratings, reviews, and thoughts on games!
BGG features reviews, ratings, images, play-aids, translations, and session reports from board game geeks around the world, as well as live discussion forums.
Here you’ll find many types of board games, including thousands you’ve probably never seen in a store. We cover not only board games but also dice games, card games, tile-laying games, and games of dexterity. We have abstracts, economic games, dungeon crawls, city building, diplomacy and negotiation, trading, puzzle games, strategy games, party games, war games, and many more. We run the gamut from the light and whimsical Carcassonne to the serious and heavy empire-building of Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition. Well-known games like Monopoly exist in the database as well, although you’ll find almost all users prefer modern games that exhibit advancements in game play and component quality since Monopoly was first published.

Excellent app

I am a huge fan of boardgames, with a substantial collection, and firstly, BGG is the best source of information, ratings, and all sorts of community information and resources. A truly special repository of board game stuff. The app allows me to access the information more easily on my phone and I have NOT had any issues. They are continuously updating the features, and so far, it has been great.

I’m already logged in, stop sending me to the website to do it again.

Update: As I’ve used this app more, I’ve noticed more glaring issues and omissions. One instance is being able to do a search in GeekLists. You can only see automated “Hot” GeekLists. This feels like a massive oversight. Other lists are also difficult to find, such as the top games that have a specific mechanic or theme. Another issue is that the main page feels very cluttered and doesn’t display what I would classify as the most relevant information near the top, such as news. I really couldn’t care less about the Hotness list because it’s not that dynamic, whereas the news should be posting things several times a day. On that note, you really have to dig for BGG’s news as it’s buried in a submenu. I’d love to one day see a sort of feed like what I see on IGN’s app (I know, different industry, different standards, but you get my drift). The automated lists could have their own tab, GeekLists theirs. All this said, there’s so much info in one place, I’d rate the app a 4.5. Unfortunately, in board game terms, I have to round down. Btw, those negative reviews talking about free speech are obviously just mad that they got kicked off for hate speech. I’m glad that BGG doesn’t tolerate such behavior as that stifles discussion and feelings of inclusion. Board games are for everyone, not just the privileged who don’t normally pay consequences for what they say. Original: Been into board games for a year or so and it always struck me as odd that BGG didn’t have their own app. So many other third party apps are in the store to make up for that, but all of them are glitchy or don’t have many features. At last, BGG has released their own app, and the more I play with it, the more I love it. From seamlessly adding games to collections to contributing on forums to going through the news to looking at Kickstarter games…it’s like they took every single detail on the admittedly old-school site and made it look great on modern phones. The ads that people are complaining about are easily ignored. Some people just want to nitpick when the good clearly outweighs the bad. I have no complaints. Keep up the great work, BGG!

Love the app, support the site, but…

The app has been getting better and better over time - great job getting it into a great place. but…. ***Please make the my collection view more useful*** What I really want to do it look at my collection and filter it based on the criteria needed to choose a game for a group of friends coming over. Number of players, difficulty, length of time, etc. This has got to be a very common use case for many of your site’s users. The old Boardgame bible app had this from an imported view of my bgg collection, and I used it all the time. I could care less if I have parts or want parts, and many other current filters in place right now, for example.

Great app and a great site

A great app for the boardgame hobby and the site is worth supporting.

Great app, trash organization

You can’t get more woke than these guys. If you’re not strong left-leaning, then you’re not welcome. Free speech is dead at BGG, headed by lead authoritarian Matthew Octavian.
