Description

Boat Beacon is an internet AIS receiver and transmitter for your iPhone and iPad. It is the only AIS ship tracking app to provide Collision Warnings, share your boat’s position & use real-time AIS data.
Connected to the largest network of AIS shore receivers world-wide covering most major ports, harbours and popular coastal areas.
“An outstanding app, with great potential. Both interesting to use and very user friendly. This could be a life saver and especially of interest to small boat users. Everyone who goes on the water should have this on and use it!” ***** Sun Dream, App Store Review
Boat Beacon is specifically designed for boaters & provides continuous Bearing, Range & Closest Point of Approach (CPA) calculations and alarms in addition to standard AIS information even when in the background.
Boat Beacon does not require any external AIS transponder or receiver equipment.

Your position can be shared and seen on all our apps without using an MMSI number. To be seen on Global AIS systems like MarineTraffic you need an MMSI number. In the US you can obtain one by visiting http://www.boatus.com/mmsi or email us for a free internet MMSI number.
Please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
NOT FOR NAVIGATION
Boat Beacon should only be used for basic navigation reference and should not be solely relied upon to determine precise locations, proximity, distance, or direction. You will not be visible to other ships on VHF only AIS systems.

I have had this app for over a year and it was good . We recently purchased the share with app and was working fine 2 weeks ago now the app will not display any thing and when connecting goes back to boat beacon Home Screen. Has anyone else noticed this over the last few weeks

Lots of potential - need serious UI attention

Hey guys, great work, lots of potential but needs a lot of work regarding attention to detail - looks like the UI was designed and executed in a garage by a pair of teenagers. Don’t get me wrong fabulous potential but it’s been 7 months since the last update and at 15€ a pop you would expect some more, behind the scenes action. You could start on TCPA and CPA data - many times the app has said N/A to both of these and I can clearly see it is very applicable...😳 Anyway, hope more people buy the app and you can then reinvest to make things slicker and even better rather than just pocket the cash.

Link to Navionics

The App works great. My only complaint is that I wanted to overlay the AIS data in Navionics which the App says it can do. As soon as I downloaded it tried to charge me more for the link to work. Had I known that before I probably would’ve gone down a difficult route.

As a first time user I’m impressed. The demo is clear, works well and I look forward to ‘live’ use. Gerry

Great help from the support team at Boat Beacon to get both apps to work together on my iPad. Thank you Steve!

Boat Beacon review

If you wish to use this app on inland waterways throughout Europe then don’t bother. System relies on shore based relay stations which may be in abundance around coastlines but are few and far between inland. Have just navigated the Rhône and not one vessel was identified. I feel that I have been miss sold this product!

Great for any boat

all my nicknames are used uo on

Being a small yacht sailor I worry about collisions in poor visibility Without an AIS receiver on the boat this app is terrific. Install it and off you go. Not tried it more than 5 miles offshore but when in a 4g area it is very easy to use I had to buy a portable recharger for the phone as the battery drains but this is no issue for me If you have a small boat without a specific AIS receiver then give this a go!
