I like the app, I got it awhile ago when it had minimal features and from there it’s only gotten better. The problem I have is I’m not someone who likes to track my reading daily, I just want to track which books I’ve read per year and set monthly goals, which is quite easy to do on the app. I’m not gonna pull out my phone to start recording my reading minutes, because that just takes the fun out of reading for me, so when I look at my statistics page, most of my stats like: reading speed, minutes per day read, streak, and pages read are at 0 which just makes the app look less smooth to me. It definitely seems like a great app for those who want to get back into reading, but for just book tracking, I think it needs more options.
Useless and a waste of time…
Spent over an hour trying to set up my library, had major issues with the correct book information being found based on the scanned barcodes. Either the images of the books wouldn’t load right, the publishing information was always off, or it would pull completely incorrect book info. Once I finally went through and manually corrected everything, set up my library and collections and entered my reading progress… lo and behold now you gotta pay an insane subscription price to use the useless app. Deleting immediately! Plenty of other basic free apps out there that work much better!
Brilliantly designed library manager
I’ve used Bookshelf for at least a year now. It’s brilliantly designed with native Swift UI libraries, the developer finds creative ways to effectively incorporate Apple’s latest libraries into the user experience, and it is actively-developed with few critical bugs. It has nearly all the features you could dream of in a book management app.
The developer of this app is incredibly talented and has created a magnificent app that I look forward to using almost as much as I look forward to the reading I’m tracking. My personal favorite feature is being able to categorize books into “Owned, “Borrowed,” “Wishlist,” etc. It helps me stay organized, and is also useful when I end up in the bookstore and am wondering what books I should look for :)
The app has a new crowd-sourced feature request interface, but I’ll put my two cents here: it’d be great to be able to share your library or create a shared library with family members or other iCloud users. A great example of this done well is the Mela recipe manager app.
Lastly, I’m a big advocate for open/public source software. Opening up your codebase doesn’t necessitate a large support burden (as long as the expectations are clear). But it does open the door for other motivated developers to help solve critical bugs or add features. Plus, there may come a day when you won’t want to maintain this app anymore—iOS development can be exhausting—and this app is too good to die!
Keep up the great work. Thanks for the beautiful app ❤️
Great for keeping what you read
I love this app. I paid outright so no more subscription. Thank you! My income has greatly decreased so this helps me so much! This app is definitely better than Goodreads. I love the new update so nice! I love that it shows the cover of the book or audiobook on the day you finished it.
Unhappy
I recently just paid for the premium version of the app and currently I am unable to even open the app without it crashing. I’m very upset that I can’t get to my books especially after just spending money.
App is useless after update
It’s great that you have updates for the app but when you have an update that makes the app unable to open not good. I have essentially lost every book I have recorded in the app and I read at least 1-2 books a month. Very disappointed.
Constantly Crashing
app cant even open without crashing within a second
Love it!
In glad I came across this app. Prior to this I was using pen and paper (legitimately) to keep track of all my books and my notes/reviews for each. I love that now both Goodreads and Kindle can be synced into the app. All my notes just transfer over for my e-readers.
this is the holy grail of book apps?
INCREDIBLE
for the ultimate book nerds dude!!! i am obsessed i cannot wait for this app to become my personality while i transfer over my goodreads library. i like to book journal and this app is SO SO GOOD FOR THE DATA.
loving:
i can easily track my own library / tbr / read.
i can add notes & quotes & definitions so easily.
i can track how long i’m reading.
i am??! missing how to rate/review the books and add stars bc it says i can do that but WHERE (also i wrote this 5 star review even knowing that I’m missing a big chunk of what I want this app to do for me… It’s still 50 stars) (also i’ve read over 90 books this year so like i’m pretty serious about this)
Very few books
There’s hardly any books!!! Half the books I’ve read and they are very popular are not on this app.
