Updated review…. I decided to try this app again after a bigger $ increase on Gaia app plus other issues. I have found it much more seamless and works a lot better. Looking forward to the coming soon CarPlay. Love the updates you’ve made since my first use almost 3 years ago. Only thing I’d love to see is the ability to add different colours to tracks and being able to organize tracks into folders. Already purchased to 3 year plan. Loving the new look and feel. Previous review….I was so looking forward to using this app. Took a bit to figure out how to import gpx files. Only through web app but got it done. But then the kicker. No car play? Now I understand back country it's not necessary but to anyone using it to overland or off road it's important to stream to head unit plus it's convenient to use to get to the location otherwise I need to use multiple apps. A pain. So until they add CarPlay I'll have to give this app a big no! Update.... I do know there are offline maps available which I tried. However driving off-roading having a larger screen to check where you're going is a must. Small phone screen isn't useful if hard to see while driving. Several other apps have that ability and I am currently back to those that use CarPlay. I stand by my claim that for some that no CarPlay is still no good for anyone using it how I use it.

The interface is designed poorly with too many levels deep to access things. Also when moving the map it continually asks if you want to drop a pin, waypoint. Frustrating. The kicker though is their price gouging. They have increased the monthly rate to $10!!!! That’s $120.00 per year plus tax = $135.60 if you go the whole year! That’s simply gouging. Time will tell if enough people are willing to fork that out for this poorly designed OS. I know the company well, have bought their cards for many provinces for my GPS’s, purchased their print products as well and my experience is that they aren’t interested in their customers. You are just a number, and if it isn’t working for you or you have a question - get lost. It’s with a heavy heart that I have made the decision to stop patronizing any of their products being a Canadian company but they clearly have more money than they need and have no incentive to care about their customers.

Difficult to navigate the app. You need a PhD in order to find something. Local knowledge definitely required. not easy for an old man.

I have been using the app for about a year now. Back in the day you were either guessing or going off of a map book. Now it’s so easy to know where you are and it takes all the anxiety out of exploring! It’s absolutely the best thing to have if you want to explore new country. I can’t recommend it more!! Thanks guys job well done!

The new update is much slower to load. And so far I’ve noticed that tapping “GO” on anything in “My Data” or searched POI results in nothing most of the time. About 1 time in 10 will the map go to the selected location, but it usually stays at my current location. This is on a fully updated iPhone 14Pro. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing, also it would really help if there was a batch download to get my data back.

I’m giving a negative review because I for the life of me cannot remove trails I’ve been on- or in my case, a trail that never happened from Vancouver bc to Shuswap. It’s a direct straight line - that clutters up my maps. I’ve searched far and wide and I can’t figure out how to delete them (there are three trails like this that span miles. Make your app more user friendly pls

I just learned about the map books and also searched up the App. There does not seem to be a lot of subscribers and images of places. I am sure there are for some common places but it is not very obvious so I find myself switching to google. Also for places like campgrounds or places of interest there is no URL for a website. Using the map on a PC browser seems to have more detailed options … eg if you pick parks there is a drill down to select or deselect certain types of parks…. But on the IOS app you can’t drill down. anyways it’s still new for me so I need to explore more but this is my initial feelings…..Also the settings between IOS and browser are not synced which is how I noticed the settings are not as detailed on IOS. Also in browser the map defaults to BC and my system has location on, google seems to find me

There are a suite of products from backroads. I signed up for the iPhone app and I also use the web app on my PC. I thought it would be great to plan excursions on my PC then be able to access that plan on the IOS app. Unfortunately, it does not appear to work that way. You can access waypoints and routes you have recorded on your phone from your PC but not the other way around unfortunately. This makes no sense other than the developers never envisioned users wanting to proactively plan? Your phone screen is too small to try and pick your way through a complicated trail system without a plan. I also found the interface for storing and editing trip plans to be not very intuitive.

Maps in app do not show same trails, etc as in book version. Shows basically the same as google maps.

Not loving how I was charged 2ed day of my free trial…. That’s my only reason for a 4 star. So far I am liking the app. Easy than others I find.
