Linked to the telescope by Celestron’s SkyPortal module, it leverages your smartphone’s GPS to seamlessly enter location, time, etc. so you can be stargazing within seconds. With a touch of the finger, you can get the scope to effortlessly slew to all the targets you want to see, and to quickly go back and forth to compare, say, two different globular clusters. Thank you! I'm so dang pleased, I'll happily give it a 5-star review. ------ I've used this on an iPad and iPhone. Works well and really enhances my time with my telescope. This would be a 4 star review, except the audio commentary, which was one of the best features, seems to be gone in the latest update. Used to be an icon to click when you were in the Info section for a particular object. Now I can't find it. -- MDAware, 2016-10-21 ### ****- "Not so good for iPad Air, good for iPhone 6 Plus" Update October 2016: Please bring back the audio commentaries! They are awesome for astronomy nights with our students! I was originally going to give this three stars because the slewing with my iPad Air is delayed by minutes sometimes and at other times it over slews quite a bit. The app also lags by minutes sometimes when using the compass or when trying to scroll up and down the ‘Best of” search screen. Since the slewing was so slow, against the advice of Celestron techies in the forums, I tried using the hand control with the app. This works sometimes, however, at other times it causes the app to crash and sometimes it can’t reconnect to the scope requiring me to turn the scope on and off which means that I have to re-align all of the stars. I had to re-align the stars three times one night because of this problem so it’s not a good idea to use the app with the hand control though it would be nice if they could work together. By contrast, however, I tried using my iPhone 6 plus to see if there would be a difference and it was like night and day. I was able to align the three stars in a few minutes and minute slew movements also worked great. I’m not sure why there is such a discrepancy between my iPad Air and the iPhone 6 Plus. I also really like the addition of the audio. I love playing it while looking at the stars. It would be especially cool if the audio could be reusable somehow. Perhaps it could link to an astronomy radio show or something because after hearing the audio a few times it doesn’t really have replay value. -- Mr. MacLean, 2016-10-09 ### **--- "Not useful yet" This app looks good initially but it has some defects that prevents it from being useful. One is that the compass mode is very touchy and looses its direction. This may be more of an iPhone issue especially I see this with the new iOS 10. So I don't use the compass mode. Another problem is that it loses connection with the scope of you go to another screen like help, or to another app. Still not a killer but when you reconnect it shows the scope at zenith. So the app and scope are not working well together. Not possible to get basic features of the hand control like polar align, home position, precise go-to, or object info like when the Great Red Spot is visible on Jupiter. Simply an oem version of the basic skysafari . Unfortunately not possible to get skysafari to work on skylink 2. So this is nice for basic user, useless for advanced user.
