CleanBrowsing is a DNS-based content filtering service that offers a safe way to browse the web without surprises. It intercepts domain requests and filter sites that should be blocked, based on your requirements. Our free family filter, for example, blocks adult content, while still allowing Google, Youtube, Bing, DuckDuckGo and the rest of the web to load safely.
Our free filters are comprised of three predefined filters for global consumption (Security, Adult, and Family). The Family filter blocks adult / obscene content and applies Safe Search filters to Google, Bing, Yandex, etc. The security filter, however, only focuses on restricting access to malicious activity.
Our custom filters give you full control on what should be blocked. You can pick from 14 predefined filters (Adult, Gaming, Gambling, Torrents, Weapons, Social Network, etc), but also make your own rules and block/allow any domains you wish. Custom block pages can also be created on the Pro plans and all the plans allow for network visibility (see which sites are being visited from your network).

Loopholes aplenty
Devs, thank you for trying, honestly, but you need to warn users about these loopholes! Users, you should know them...
1. You must not allow kids to delete apps or else this app may quickly disappear! There's a setting in Screen Time to block deleting apps.
2. Set a passcode in the app or else it Is easily disabled! The app should require or at the very least suggest these you do this but it doesn't.
3. You must restart the YouTube app to apply filtering. "Family Filter" mode allegedly enforces Restricted mode in YouTube.... But when I opened the YouTube app, the mode remained off. Silent fail (the worst kind!) in other words. Restarting the app enforces filtering but you have to do that manually. Until then you get no filtering.
It’s ok
I really wanted this to work but it’s to easy to uninstall. Beyond this app makes my WiFi drop all the time making my phone unusable for certain periods of the day. Plus it’s no longer being updated and possible abandoned.
EDIT: I finally had to uninstall, my phone became unusable. Such a shame as this product works great on PC.
Unable to enter custom code on ipod touch
Hello, the screen is too small on my ipod touch to press the green confirm button after pasting my custom code.
The easiest way to fix this without having to resize screens to optimize for smaller devices would simply be to have the "return" button act to enter the code / do the same thing as pressing the green confirm button. I would really appreciate being able to use this on my ipod touch
Best mobile filter I’ve found
I like that this forces safe search on search engines because it’s really easy to get around most and see adult images with the right choice of words in a search, even if the url is blocked because you still have the image preview.
However I have Xfinity and am using their router and they prevent changes to the dns addresses for some reason, I guess to be annoying. I got this app to work, though I found the router kept kicking me off the network over and over until I deleted the app. So if you have xFinity and their router, it might not work for you.
Easy to use
Easy setup. I use in conjunction with Apple’s content restrictions.
Needs trouble shouting.
This app does not allow me to use my mobile data, it disables it.
Data connection error
This app was working great for the first few months. Nothing was breaking on my phone and all was well. But about a month ago something changed with the vpn or my iPhone or whatever and now if I have the VPN on it disrupts my Data connection and I can’t use it. I can’t use anything that requires data because it tells me to connect to a network (when I am) and on my certain websites work, others say that there is “no IP address found”
Please try and fix this!
Amazing product.
Did not expect to find a product that would solve all my Open DNS problems, but CleanBrowsing was the solution for our iPhones, Kindle fires and PC. Great instructions.
Not great
This app causes me to constantly drop my WiFi connection and there’s not option to have “always on” VPN like other DNS apps. Very easy to turn off and creates an unstable connection.
Turning off vpn and deleting app too easy
My issue with the app is that it is easily deleted from the iphone without requiring a password. So long as the app in on the phone it works great. However, in a moment of weakness it is far too easy to just delete the app off of the phone. Also, the same can be said for the vpn setting.
Is there someway to require a passcode before changing the vpn settings or being allowed to remove the app? Even having an “ally” receive an email that you have changed the vpn settings or deleted the app would be better than just being able to turn them off or delete the app.
this is very important for those who want to have healthy online practices. It is far too easy to circumvent the software without these measures.
