"It is a very easy to use, tremendously helpful and valuable addition for learning the language and traveling. I have found it a pleasure to use and it has exceeded my expectations in every way and has not yet let me down in any way. A terrific app."
"I bought this dictionary in August 2010, and six months later in February 2011 I still use this Ultralingua dictionary daily. Good all-rounder

ShirazAberdeen on

This is my first port of call as a dictionary & for conjugations. It’s pretty well laid out. I gave it four stars out of five because: 1. Sometimes the English translations lack breadth (then I will go to Oxford-Hachette, DeepL, Linguee, or Bescherelle Synonymes and one of more of the the first three)*. 2. It can sometimes be a bit painful getting back to start a fresh search. * I’m now at CEFR level B1.3 at Alliance Française, so am beginning to approach nuances in in meaning, and broadening my vocabulary.

Invaluable

I’m a French student and I find this app invaluable. Quick to use, and the different examples of contexts for using a word or phrase are really useful, as are verb conjugations. It’s replaced two dictionaries for me.

Greatest app for learning French

Collins English-French Dictionary

The $A25 version is much better than the $A10 version which I bought initially. It offers sample sentences to give context and ways of using a word. Also the verb conjugation feature is wonderful, a feature no paper dictionary could match. I wish I had bought this version ages ago.

This dictionary should be improved. Otherwise, it is useless.

I was expecting a dictionary that has a chart that shows IPA International Phonetic Alphabet, not a link to Wikipedia that is useless. Also I expected the IPA chart can give tips about each symbol such as an equivalent or similar sound in English. Also each word with a recording option where we can say the word and the system could tell us if we are doing the pronunciation right.

Always quit when I try to use pronunciation

肥腿子 on

This is quite useful, and for 17.00 bucks it’s not cheap either. I purchased an electronic dictionary precisely because I want to hear the word. However, it always quit when I highlight the word and select “speak”. I tried on both my phone and my iPad. Just does not work. Very frustrating.

Excellent Dictionary!!

I thoroughly enjoy using this excellent French Language Dictionary!

Dictionnaire Robert

Le plus souvent je trouve une bonne traduction sauf pour les mots un peu ésotériques, j’attendrais mieux d’une dictionnaire comme le Robert.

Well worth the money

Pout3521 on

Yes there are a bunch of free translator apps and online dictionaries, and this one is neither free nor cheap, but it’s worth every penny. It’s very easy to use, and the information provided for every word is comprehensive, usually with sentences provided to show how the word works. This is especially useful for figures of speech or word usages that don’t directly translate. For example, you may “practice” piano in English but you “work” piano in French. The listing for practice explains that sort of thing. It also has complete conjugation tables for every verb, which are provided directly after the definition(s). I love this app!

Good but no audible pronunciation

TimBennett619 on

United States

Great dictionary but the omission of audible pronunciations -- when every cheap dictionary is able to provide it -- is an egregious oversight and a nuisance for the user because they have to go to a second app for this purpose.
