REVIEWS:
"The most useful language app for the iPhone - I've been using a number of iPhone apps to help me learn Italian. The dictionary is quite large. The at-a-glance conjugation tables are fantastic. And when I was learning numbers, the quick number pad was a brilliant help." -User review

"Buy it, it's the best - You get what you pay for in the AppStore. I tried all the other Italian translations tools as I'm learning Italian and living in an Italian speaking country. Prior to getting this tool I was frustrated to tears by the poor quality of the other tools." -User review

"This is an outstanding app, it has a deep database and you will leave your dictionary, phrase book and verb conjugation book at home when going to class or traveling (no need for an Internet connection either). Accurate translations, many idiomatic expressions given along with definitions."

This universal app will run on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, so you can purchase it once and load it onto all your devices. The iPad and iPhone/iPod touch versions look and behave differently to give you a great experience on every device you own. The interface will change, but you’ll always have the same outstanding language data and tools inside.

Collins Italian Dictionary

kmjbct on

Excellent in every way, with words, ability to hear every word pronounced, extensive descriptions of words and their meanings and uses, verb conjugations with translation. Also, unexpectedly, the ability to search the web for transactions of words not listed in the dictionary. Excellent value for money.

Response to anyone who has the same view as the negative post.

Apps are not the be all to end all. As an Italian can I tell you most translations or works from books are from non Italian background people. That is they Learnt italian Themselves. Too many times I see misspelled words. The other thing to think of some authors also use random dialect words because that is what they were taught. On a positive note you are right there bare many methods now on the internet to find the answer for free. But what if you don’t have access to the web?

Indispensable

I bought the Italian dictionary for iPad a few years ago and it has been well worth it. Very rarely do I fail to find what I'm looking for, and it's simple to go from one reference to another, unlike leafing through pages of a book. It even gives a spoken version of a word to clarify pronunciation. Very useful, highly recommended.

A complete novice but finding this app extremely useful especially for conjugating verbs. Easy to use. Recommended.

Perfetto!

eric.von on

Can't fault this App. I have the paper version which at 3kg is a little inconvenient to carry around with me. The wonderful thing about this dictionary is it gives you lots of different examples of word usage including whole sentences and phrases. The e-version has wonderful features like touching any word and it will translate it, conjugate it if it's a verb or do a Google search on it. It has a history of the recent words and a back button to go to recent searches. Would be good if you could delete individual history items but maybe that will come. $60 for the paper version was worth every penny, now $30 for this App is too.

Lack of important information at such a price

MrCipher on

After a term of Italian study I was doing a bit review. The text book is 'Chiaro'. On the title page of the 2nd chapter something annoyed me. What it was is that I could not figure out the exact meaning of the word 'parlane' as in 'Parlane con un compagno'. I would imagine it got something to do with 'parlare' but in what way? I could not find it in other free dictionaries nor on Google so I thought I should get a better reference book. I bought this one and found myself screwed. Collins does not have the information I wanted either. I searched on Google again for like 30 minutes and after so many wrong directions and finally found my answer. Turns out parlane= ne parla =(you) talk about it. The meaning of that sentence is talk about it with a classmate. Yes may be I am too fussy but the point is , the whole idea to spend 30 something dollars on this is i want something better than the free ones. I want the answers ready for me. I don't want to go to google every time. As a beginner i found that with my limited Italian it's very hard for me to get the information I wanted. But turns out this dictionary isn't much(or any) better than the free dictionaries out there. So anyone who is reading this, don't throw your money down the drain like me. Just get a free dictionary. If it is not enough, most likely Collins can't help you either. Just go to google.

For students

This is a great tool for anyone learning Italian. It is on your iPhone, ipad when you need it. I recommend it and use it pretty much everyday.

Love the new interface

Chris Corbyn on

I've been using the Ultralingua apps on iPhone and Mac OS for years and think they are great, easy to use and have a vast wordbank. I liked the old interface, so changing it seemed a bit risky, but using this new interface it feels much more natural and streamlined. Love it. Good work!

Very impressed

PeterInSydney on

I've always been very impressed with this app. I think the latest version is even better. I really like the ease in which one can move around the app. For example, tapping on a verb brings up a conjugate option. Clicking on at opens a verb table, with further option to easily change the tense. Nice extras like font choice are great as well. Well done! I currently have the Italian and German dictionaries, and will be buying more.
