If you are outside of the USA, steer clear, there are too many Americanisms that any one outside would have no idea what the editor is going on about.
In many places, it seems the compiler just filled in the squares with letters, then made up clues to suit.
All I am looking for is a straight foreword dictionary based crossword, no matter how difficult, that can challenge me, not one where I have to search the internet searching for the meaning of the clues.
If I wanted that, I would get a cryptic crossword.

The interface is great. Little touches like shading multi-word answers in the grid, providing links to referenced clues, and highlighting crossing clues, are very well thought out and implemented. 

I downloaded the app because my favourite cryptic crossword compiler (LR) has crosswords for sale here. I was happy with the price and they have been very entertaining. 

Only reason my review is not 5-star is that it's not clear what I would get if I purchase the full version. It says "many newspapers", but which ones? I want to know at a glance exactly what all the in-app purchases offer: Cryptic, British quick, or American?

Can't finish bottom of crossword on a mini iPad as keyboard covers it and can't be got rid of. Just 'bounces' down and up too fast to edit.

Many different countries' lingo should be included. Not only to test us, but to teach us. Otherwise, great layout, good options! More color and theme changes could be included.

I think the actual crossword engine is really good as it is intuitive and easy to use. The puzzles I tried had far too many references to modern American TV and POP culture for my liking though I am sure others wouldn't mind this. I also didn't like the use of abbreviations, multiple words and slang without notice being given in the clues, though once again others might enjoy the extra challenge this provides.

To the compiler: You're not very good at this, are you? Do a course in compiling crosswords, then try again. Here's a couple of hints for you: Answers should not be made-up words or phrases; Clues should indicate if the answer has more than one word; You need to decide if your crossword is cryptic or straight, or generalist or specialised, then stick to that. And it may be news to you, but there are other countries in the world, besides the US! At least it was free!

This is an excellent App. I think the Aussies who don't like it have never tried the NYT crossword. Yes it's a bit US-centric, and the lack of word breaks is tricky for those used to Oz/Brit format clues - but then imagine a yank trying to do the SMH cryptic. Just enjoy the challenge and learn something new - and when you can't nut it out, use the friendly and generous hint function.
