The website seems like it’s a dialup system. Until someone decided they needed to warn more money and sold their souls to google. The google ad integration app makes it a pain to navigate without accidentally clicking on the ads. When you have a 5 star product, leave it alone. -- tater121, 2024-12-13 ### *---- "Glitchy, terrible, full of spam ads — virtually unusable" CT is fundamentally an estate sale company, not a software company. Their mobile software is almost an afterthought; it glitches, is unresponsive, takes significant amounts of time to load, fails to register bids or watched items, and fails to load or indicate invoices. Its messaging system is also a travesty: character limits shorter than old Twitter make detailed questions impossible; once you ask a question, it takes you to a nameless thread that doesn’t allow you to loading the item in question (so if you’ve asked two people questions, you have no idea which item corresponds to which thread). Their newest innovation—becoming a “premium” member—doesn’t give you perks with respect to bidding or nonpublic lots; it lets you tell them how to improve the app. That’s right; instead of doing its own beta-testing and working out glitches, CTbids wants YOU to pay for the privilege of improving their app. Every franchisee and every customer service rep I’ve spoken to has told me not to use the app. It is — without exaggeration — terrible. Fortunately (I thought) there was an update that came out 12/13. Unfortunately, all the update appears to have done is adding advertisements. It didn’t fix any of the known errors in the app. It didn’t make the app run faster or more smoothly. Didn’t create a coherent messaging system. It added ad based monetization. Apparently taking a sizable cut from each bid isn’t enough for CTbids; they now have decided to spam the app with large advertisements that appear every few items. If you’re looking over an estate whose catalog has with 500 lots, you’ll get *hundreds* of ads, making the list all-but-unreadable. CTbids is such a good idea in concept—helping families in transition and allowing local flexibility on the ground—but its implementation is just such abject garbage. That goes beyond the app; while many individual franchisees are amazing, the corporate umbrella organization is like the smartphone app—barely functional, disorganized, and so driven to aggressively squeeze every cent it can that it makes the entire process meaningfully worse. To put it directly: I have never had a bad encounter with a franchisee, and I have never had a good encounter with anything run by the corporate entity. Bid at local online auctions, or bid only with specific CTbids sellers. Absolutely do not use this app. There are plenty of better platforms than this. The app is extremely slow though. I recommend using the website to browse. If you are bidding on something the app can be useful for the push notifications if you were outbid, but besides that it is not really easier or more convenient than using the website on your phone. -- Leemerrrr, 2024-10-06 ### *---- "DO NOT BY ANYTHING FROM THIS SITE!" I was a avid buyer on this site for several years, spending upwards of 100k I put up with the outrageous shipping costs and late shipments because I was still able to flip some of the stuff I purchased and make a small profit. The locations are franchises and most of the owners have little or not interest in treating buyers with anything but contempt. Most of them are realestate agents that want to get a listing so the offer to clear a house out after someone has past or moved to a home. Most have little experience running sales and really don’t care about the buyers. They are just a means to an end for them. Several times I was threatened with being kicked off their site because I didn’t pay a shipping invoice 1 day after I received it. Even though it would take a week, two weeks, a month or more for the franchise owner to send you one. When you get the shipping invoice be prepared to pay 3-5 times what it would normally cost to ship. I asked several of them if I could by my own shipping labels, asked if I could arrange my own shipping. The answer was always no read our terms “ you loathsome buyer”. Look at some of there terms, they use very hostile language at buyers before you purchase one item. Like I said in the opening, I put up with the abuse for several years because I was able to eeek out a small profit. But their fees and outrageous shipping costs have forced me to take my business elsewhere where they actually respect the people that keep their lights on.
