Every Cuckoo Clock owner knows that a mechanical clocks are not as accurate as modern day quartz clocks. This is because the clock mechanism is influenced by temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, breeze and others environmental conditions and therefore requires frequent adjustment.

How to calibrate your Clock using this app:
1.	Run this App and measure your Clock timings using the iPhone microphone
2.	Use the Signal Gain and the Detection Threshold sliders to adjust the measured signal
3.	Select a reference timing for calibration from the clock reference table or set your own reference timing
4.	Read the accuracy level of your clock vs. the reference timing
5.	Adjust your Clock pendulum bob to get the best accuracy!
6.     Review how many seconds/minutes your Clock will gain or lose per day based on your current calibration

The app will presents your Clock beats period reading as well as BPH (beats per hour) and BPM (beats per minutes) values.
An accurate waveform display of the microphone signal will help you to adjust the tick readings for the best measurement.

### ***** "Perfect timing"
This is a very well-made and genuinely useful app. I love how you can add profiles for different clocks that you own, too. I was able to get my over 100 year old Seth Thomas mantle clock ticking within a 0.04% margin of error (which is about 5-7 seconds off per day).

If you have vintage clocks, I definitely recommend this app!

### ***** "Excellent but needs some slight changes"
This is a great app for regulating a mechanical clock…not just cuckoo clocks, as the name would suggest!  You do need to find out the proper beat frequency of the clock movement you’re trying to regulate (usually 60 BPM for grandfather clocks, but varies widely for other clocks).

I have three requests that would make the app perfect for me:

—please allow a frequency of 60.000 BPM!  I don’t know why the app doesn’t allow this.  I use 60.001 BPM for my grandfather clocks, which is close enough, but it’s kind of annoying to have to do so.

—you should really repackage/rename this app to be for all mechanical clocks, not just cuckoo clocks.  The cuckoo clock animation is cute, but I think more people would purchase the app if it were clear that this can be used for all mechanical clocks

—it would be wonderful if the app would save the data once a measurement is completed.  Making a slight noise to pick up the phone or to take a screenshot completely disrupts the completed measurement, and it disappears.

### ***** "Pretty accurate for setting your clock"
I have a cuckoo clock that is not in the database, a Regula 35, a one day movement. Through trial and error I’ve got it pretty close to about 1min/day. I’m not about to try and count teeth on gears and pinions to calculate the pendulum rate but found I had to get a longer pendulum stick after cleaning and oiling. Don’t know why this was but after trial and error got it pretty close. Was hoping the developer might have a proper reference for that particular movement but here is the reference that I have developed for the Regula 35;   BPH 6755.25. BPM 112.587. Period 532.919.  I hope the developer will publish a corrected version but if not this is about as close of one that I can get. I hope this helps anyone with that particular movement. A great app and thanks.

This app is wonderful! I just upgraded my Grandfather Clock with a new Hermle movement and was not looking forward to spending a week or more calibrating the pendulum. Within a few hours I got this baby down to gain or lose just seconds per day. This tool will be a tremendous time saver to keep my clock running at it’s finest.  

The biggest problem was getting a good run - the iPhone microphone picks up so much background noise that it is difficult to complete a calibration pass. I had to wait until everyone was in bed before I could get good, reliable readings. Just the dog’s nails clicking on the hardwood floor was enough to trigger an upset. 

My suggestion (Feature Request) is, once you’ve reached a high level of confidence in the beats measurement, put guard bands around the measured beats. That way, any noise outside the guard bands would be rejected.

I got a request from a friend of the family to try and fix their cuckoo clock.  I knew nothing about them, but after some YouTube videos and this app the clock is running again and keeps perfect time!  I was a rank beginner but this app is very intuitive, easy to use even for a new guy.

Great app if you need to set the beat on a clock and then time it! Not just for Cuckoos! Tells you when you have a consistent beat and then whether you need to raise or lower the pendulum. You need a quiet place to use it. One of the best apps I’ve ever had!!

I belong to a couple clock collecting and repairing groups on Facebook, and I occasionally recommend this app. The first question is always, does it only work for cuckoo clocks?

Since it works for any clock, a more universal name would be in order.  Tick-Tock Clock Calibration, etc.

Perhaps in your database you could include generic timings for common pendulum clocks - 60bpm, 72 bpm, 80bpm, etc.

### ***** "Works for 100 year old Junghans shelf clock"
This app worked great to calibrate an old shelf clock. Ideas: 1) add a button to invert the display (you need to point the iPhone mic at the clock for best results so the display is upside down). 2) Explain how calculations for “drift” and instantaneous beat are made. (For example ... over how many data points does the drift average?  And what does it mean when is says “done”?)

I also measured a Sligh grandfather clock which has a second hand that advances 1 second per beat. So I assumed the theoretical beat was 1000ms. I measured the beat as 965.3x. I also timed 600 beats with a stopwatch which also gave me 965.3xms per beat. As it turns out theoretical beat is truly 965.3 as the second hand makes about 62 revolutions for every revolution of the minute hand. Would not have discovered that without the app.

This is a great app. It would be great if in the customization session allows to add lower beats per minute (like 8 BPM). This way I can use it to calibrate my Kaiser 400 anniversary clock as well. Also, it would be great to add a distribution chart for beats. This will allow the user to see the consistency in a graph rather than subjective. I tried to contact the developer but couldn’t find any info on the need. Nir, please feel free contact me for further collaboration.

Like another reviewer, I used this to check my Hamilton marine chronometer (a Model 22, not a 21, sadly). Using a “PitchGrabber” piezoelectric mic, this app proved FAR more accurate and consistent than a certain well-known and much more expensive timegraphing app.

### ***** "Nice app"
This made it quite easy to set my get the pendulum speed right for my grandfather clock. The only issue I had is that I could not add the reference period of 1000.000 ms to the list because the app blocks values of 1000 or higher, but it still dialed in the speed perfectly. Very nice.

### ***** "Not only cuckoo clocks!"
I used this app to successfully measure the rate of a 1944 Hamilton Model 21 marine chronometer. These timepieces were used for navigation of large ships of the US Navy during WWII and they are arguably the most accurate portable mechanical timepieces ever made. The app works well to measure the period of the clock. In fact, it works much better than my other software that is better suited to wristwatches. I suspect this is because the wristwatch timing software looks for an acoustic profile of a wristwatch lever escapement, and gets confused with the detent escapement of the Model 21.  The app recently improved its resolution to 1 us, which makes it ideal to measure the Hamilton. The period of the Hamilton is 500 ms, so the improved resolution permits an adjustment of rate to within 0.17 s/day.

### ***** "Very good clock tool!"
I like how this is affordable and works like a 200 dollar machine! I can get my cuckoos a lot more accurate and level with this tool. The only downside of this is there should be more references for other clocks besides cuckoos. Maybe have a catalogs for different clock models and types. It would also be nice if you could add a feature to help get the clock in beat. Like tell which way to bend the pendulum crutch. Thanks!

Hi,

This is an awesome app. However, it would be even better if you could add how many seconds are lost or gained per day. That would be really useful. Is there any possibility you might add that? 

I don’t have a cuckoo clock, but do have a mechanical watch. It works with the watch too. Therefore knowing how many seconds are gained or lost per day will greatly help with calibration.

I think it would be nice to see it on the main calibration screen. I just think people can grasp seconds per day gain or loss easier than a percentage value.

This works well for what it is. Its accurate and informative making clock tuning much easier. It would be great to have broader clock options. I used this for a one to one grandfather clock, which it’s pretty easy to see it going at 60bpm but the app won’t let you use this as a reference. I also have a mini clock that ticks rather quickly, so there’s no reference for this. It would be awesome for the community on the app to be able to share references with everyone when they get certain clock types tuned just right. Maybe showing the brand if known, the size, and maybe even an image of the clock.

Works great, with all the accuracy and sensitivity an OCD person could hope for. This app will easily reduce the need to tinker with your clock to a tenth of what is needed by trial and error, which might be a negative for some. Suggested improvements - more user-input references would be a huge improvement for those of us with a house full of different types of clocks (none of which, in my case, are cuckoos). Different clock images for each of the user set references would be a good stylistic change.  I’m glad I found this app in spite of the name.
