I've played dozens of card rpg games and this one is good it's just the time limit doesn't make sense. The unrealistic pressure while the battle is turn based is pretty weird, feels like developers just looking for an excuse to deduct our points when it's already hard to earn them.
Repetitive - luck based - misleading
This game is equivalent to a bad video game knockoff of the movie groundhogs day.
You will find yourself in an endless loop of repetitive dialog.
The card “collecting” is not actually collecting and means nothing. It simply logs that you have encountered that card at some time in the game like a Pokédex.
The leveling requires gems earned through challenges and by completing game runs. This would normally be okay, but being that you only get a few on runs that take half an hour or more of your time seems more like grinding.
People comparing this or even saying it’s better than Slay The Spire are out of their minds.
Thoughtfully Designed
Such a fun game. Easy to learn but tough to master. I’ve logged 80 hours and still look forward to every run.
One of the best Deckbuilding Games!
As a boardgame designer myself with 2 Deckbuilding games under my belt, I can say that this game takes the mechanism to the 11th level. It does what a physical boardgame cannot do (efficiently), altering card types, adding key words, transforming energy types, etc. Most importantly, it’s a fun game that will make you think… a lot because if you die, your run ends. At first I was taken aback by that but after a few plays, this added to the tension and importance of selecting the right cards to add or cut from your deck. If you like Gloomhaven, Mage Knight, Dune: Imperium, or other modern games, this one won’t disappoint!
Truly an underappreciated gem of a game
Overall I’ve enjoyed this title for many hours over the last few years. The game Devs are active, releasing fun updates and breathing new life into the game occasionally.
As a roguelite deck building game, the replayability is already really high, and the addition of weekly challenges has been a lot of fun to see how far you can stretch builds.
One of my favorite features of this game is that it it played in portrait view on the phone. As a husband who’s wife tends to fall asleep on one of my arms, this is my go to app because it can be played on handed pretty easily.
If you enjoy roguelite games or deck building games, definitely give this a try!
Still engaging
Started playing this after StS and got hooked. I love the character progression, and the various story choices that open things. I know I have not really found them all, mostly because I am lazy. I do wish they were documented better somewhere, so I could try them out.
I have been playing it solid for at least a year.
I have the usual balance gripes but overall a great and well designed game.
I will happily buy whatever they let me as then developers dedication to keeping the game fresh with both paid and free expansions is awesome.
Masterful
This game is so excellent. Graphics, art, play styles, possibilities- everything is executed so well I’d recommend it to anyone but especially though who love slay the spire or MtG.
Outstanding can’t say it enough
I have played this game have at least a hundred hours in it. The combos are never ending, the lore and story are amazing. This game would get game of the year for me.
Best card game I have ever played! Must buy
TLDR: This game is worth 30 dollars+. You get soooo much content just for 5 bucks! Pick this is up if you enjoy deckbuilders or roguelites!
So I’ve dabbled with card games here and there main one to stick out for me was hearthstone. I played it for awhile but got tired of buying card packs and then having to be sitting there for the whole match is unrealistic as we get older.
I was looking into some other games recently and discovered night of the full moon. Another great game but my heart is Dawncaster.
This game here is a roguelite deck builder with tons of replayability! 6 classes to choose from and each one has 8 different starting weapons, talents, and starting card to choose from as well as cool looking portraits.
The game is pretty hard but easy to get the hang of. The creativity and flexibility of your decks is fantastic. I can’t gush enough about this game. I told my buddy about it and he grabbed it. Now we face time and share screens while play out different runs. So far the different builds I’ve tried was Arcanist: Ice mage, Holy priest, Demonic Warlock, electric mage
Seeker:Druid, you can actually have a shapeshifting deck :)
Hunter: Berzerker bleed build.
And that’s not even scratching the surface!! I been playing this game for hours. My buddy and I both said this is our most played mobile game ever!
Dev just announced a free expansion dropping soon adding new weapons for all the classes and over 150+ new cards.
This game is phenomenal
Sunforge Update - Thumbs Down
The problem with Dawncasters is the fix problems that aren’t broken. I liked that sunforge let you turn on random restarts on the draft. I loved sunforge that way. They decided I am not important by making the game their way after YEARS having random seeded news apply to sunforge.
I deleted the game and regretted paying money for it. Thanks for the downgrade…
