I tried many anti-snoring remedies as well as trying doctor’s recommendations but none worked well enough to stop it. It turned out that I had multiple causes including allergies, rhinitis, mouth breathing, mild RBD, etc. A few surgical procedures were available but I was reluctant to resort to such drastic and invasive (not to mention expensive) methods, especially because those methods did not guarantee desired results — in fact, a few snorers who had opted for surgeries cited that not only the surgeries made things worse, instead of better. I was skeptical about using any apps making my snoring less embarrassing because I had learned that it had multiple causes, including medical ones, and there was no easy fix, so why would an app could miraculously cure it, right? However, I had absolutely nothing to lose. So I decided to give it a shot. And I'm so glad I did. This app, "Do I Snore or Grind" does not cure snoring. Or at least it didn't for me. BUT, it does a fantastic job of recording snoring. It seems to be very accurate and reliable. I failed to record my snoring twice in 3+ months and it was due to a human error, not by the app. With the good records/data provided by this app, I was able to "experiment" with several different anti-snoring devices and exercises for accurate evaluation. It was a great way to figure out what helped and what didn't. As a result, my snoring has been reduced drastically both in frequency and audibility over several months, if not becoming non-existent!! As mentioned, this app would not "cure" snoring. But it provides a great tool to see which remedy will or will not work for the user. Reducing and, eventually, eliminating one's snore takes patience and continued effort, but it can be done and this app can be a great help to achieve the goal. As a bonus, the app does not display annoying ads or push for in-app purchases like others or demand monthly subscription fees. To my knowledge, it won't harvest personal info for monetizing either. I live & sleep alone & have used a CPAP machine for about 20 years. My CPAP is in need of replacement & I thought it would be a good idea to see if I really still need one. So I downloaded the app. I turned it on & set it on the night stand when I went to bed. In the morning there were great graphics that indicate each 30 second recording that could be snoring & you have the opportunity to listen to each recording & verify that it is snoring or not. All in all there were nearly 1000 recordings that first night which basically meant it recorded all night. I started listening to the recordings & soon realized it recorded the sound of the CPAP machine (which I actually can’t hear at all) I had left the phone next to. 😆 Since that first night I put the phone on the other nightstand & the results were amazing. Wearing my CPAP my snoring score is 0 to 3%. Of coarse I had to test it without the CPAP just to see if I really do need it & my score was between 42 & 57% on those nights. I was shocked by the difference! So I guess I really do still need it. I have an appointment with the sleep clinic next week when I’ll be showing them the graphics & hopefully they’ll send me home with a prescription for a new machine without going through another overnight sleep study. They should be able to use the same settings as my old machine as it’s obviously doing the job.
