Domestika - Online courses

I paid a year’s subscription and have zero access to my account. I tried the online contact form which was automated and didn’t solve a thing. Shame as I thought it was a good site initially. Nearly £100 down and nothing… no follow up contact made by Domestica either. DO NOT USE.

It’s challenging to find courses by language. For instance, I’m struggling to find videos of a specific discipline that are only available in English and with a plus subscription. I need to manually search for English-language courses.

Domestika has adopted that annoying sale strategy of ‘always on’ discounts, meaning they make you believe courses cost lots of money but lucky you, they’re always massively discounted… Unfortunately they often make a total mess with offers: if you log in from the app or computer, from a different place or browser etc you always get different offers. I got an ‘all courses at 0.99euro’ offer, I managed to buy one course at that price, to which they added a Plus trial I didn’t want. I was apparently gifted one credit too to get any extra course for free, but the credit never worked. I kept getting an error and have been unable to buy anything with this very generous extra gift of theirs… Contacted them twice, they replied with a generic prewritten thing about Plus membership which does not address my problem. A week on, I’m still waiting for help. Also, it looks like Plus doesn’t give you access to resources, only videos? So what’s the point of paying extra, I’m not clear. On top of that, courses are very superficial and repetitive. Most of them are pretty useless, with teachers ‘teaching’ nothing and rather just telling you to do that thing in that one way. They say they’re going to ‘teach’ you their creative process and then simply make a sketch and say ‘I like it like this’ without giving reasons for their creative choices, which is the whole point of taking a course. Subtitles are an absolute mess… They make no sense sometimes, like in Gimena Romero’s Painting with thread course, a complete mess. Cameras are also often set too far away from the teacher’s hands to see what’s going on there so it’s an endlessly frustrating experience. I paid for a few courses that are genuinely a waste of money. It’s all looks and marketing and zero substance. You can find more helpful tutorials on YouTube for free.

The courses are usually quite good though not in much depth. The app however is very buggy and with very poor UX, sometimes getting stuck on a screen and not being able to navigate back. Now my courses are not showing up, I have not logged out of my account, the downloaded courses are still there, but everything else is gone, I try to restore purchases but then I get an error to check my internet connection, which it works when I open any other new course.

0 support from Domestika - no response for over a month. Be careful with buying courses from the app - I paid for a course which was never delivered and only got an automated response, no real help from Support. Buying from the website (via browser) works better, but reluctant to buy more courses given the negative experience.

Please don’t ever get into this, I’ve tried for over a year to cancel and they just keep taking money out of my bank I can’t email as there’s no one to email I’ve tried the app but it just goes round in circles not accepting my password so go to reset then round In circles I even stopped using the bank account for 3 months but as soon as there was any funds in there I get an email welcoming me back because they’ve managed to steal money from me again!!! STEER CLEAR!

customer support service only sends standard reply. they don’t really consider any cases. so it’s a good case to loose your money. courses mostly are in Spanish and if you’ve planned to go trough them while commuting- give up that hope. don’t buy, ux is awful.

I have used Domestika for years and years and it just keeps getting better. I am eternally addicted to learning skills crafts and arts and for the last few years this has all been on Domestika. I’ve bought so many courses and watched many other plus courses. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Personally would not recommend - terrible experience with customer service. I have not been able to get in touch with a member of the help team regarding subscriptions and refunds despite writing several times. Instead of actually reaching out personally, they just send the same automated replies that are no help at all.
