Someone ran out in the middle of the road normally I would have performed an emergency brake however now with this I have no need to emergency brake so I have now secured my drivescore by avoiding the need to emergency brake. Very safe.

I decided to try this app as my insurance was due within 2 months, after 150 miles the scores were calculated and pretty good I thought. Then I noticed “phone distractions” on my score and points deducted for it? My phone is always in my pocket or in the centre console while I’m driving and on Bluetooth so no need to touch it. Today I decided to see what my insurance renewal would be as it’s due in a couple of weeks and with a score or 983/1000 it would be interesting to see how much “savings you can make using DriveScore” the answer is NIL in fact the cheapest quote was £989.50 I went straight onto go compare and the cheapest quote was £582 !! So if you want to save money avoid this app at all costs.

I tried this app for over a year, its interesting looking at the data, but it isn’t really about safe driving, it’s more concerned with slow driving in my opinion. The scoring system is very strict, ‘harsh cornering’ is the main issue for most drivers, unless you putter around at 20mph it will deduct points. And for heavens sake don’t pull out at junctions unless you can see a clear road for half a mile in each direction! Otherwise they’ll get you for ‘harsh acceleration’. I reckon I’m driving more safely now that I’ve deleted the app, as I’m not worrying about what I might be doing wrong, and instead I’m concentrating on driving safely and efficiently.

I’ve not been too harsh with my score because it did train me drive a lot calmer in order to keep my score up. But after months of good driving with a score of over 800 it didn’t come up with anything better than offers I got from ‘compare the market’. In fact I got a better deal than what was on offer through drive score. Another gripe I had was that my cornering subscore was always bad compared to the rest (acceleration, braking etc). I couldn’t work out why because the app never showed me any cornering ‘events’ like it does for the other categories when you cross the threshold that marks you down. After emailing support it turns out there are lower thresholds that don’t show up on the app but still mark you down. So I had no idea when my cornering was considered bad so I’d know where to improve. I thought I was driving quite conservatively. They did say they were looking into how to make it fairer in the future… doesn’t seem that difficult to solve, just show users where they’re driving needs improving instead of recording it in the background. The acceleration detection is a bit too sensitive I think. There were times I would get an ‘event’ recorded pulling away at a roundabout or junction where I thought if I would’ve pulled away any slower it would be dangerous. And no I’m not trying to nip out in front of traffic, I mean you have to pull away so slow that a car can appear from around the roundabout before you’ve had a chance to get up to speed and without the other drivers thinking you’re being an idiot. Well, despite all this I persisted and kept a relatively high score and it was all for nothing, so I’ve deleted the app. Quite a relief now actually not feeling like my every move is being judged and I can still get a good insurance deal elsewhere.

This is not a good app. Showed hard braking after I had to stop to prevent a crash but does not show that. The app has also showed me speeding but I’ve used my cruise control set accordingly to the speed limit and I believe my cruise control over this app. Sorry but I do not believe nor trust the data presented to me.

I’ve been using this app for close to a year now. It helps me in my driving and making decisions on the road. Not to be easily distracted as well.

I’ve had this for a while a recently (over the last few months) it seems to be picking me up constantly for harsh acceleration. I live in Milton Keynes and the acceleration is exciting roundabouts. It doesn’t seem to take into account that many of these roads are national speed limit and it’s dangerous to trundle round them at 20-30mph. This is obviously having an effect on my score.

Cornering and acceleration seem to be two areas this app struggles. After a week where I did well over 1k miles for work and personal mileage and a fair mix of roads including motorways, A Roads, B roads and lanes, I was at over 750 score with acceleration and cornering areas to focus upon. I’ve since had a week where I’ve done very few, mainly local miles on town centre roads where the opportunity to accelerate, corner too hard or even creep a mile an hour over the speed limit is practically non existent. Yet my overall score has decreased with those two areas. If anything it seems to encourage cornering and accelerating too slow if there’s nothing you can seemingly do to improve those areas when conditions mean you can’t do either in a hard manner.

Wake up! This app could be golden but it’s almost useless. It’s all but impossible to compare scores with other drivers and the insurance quotes are exactly the same as any other comparison site. I put a lot of effort into driving well and this app could be the best thing ever for like minded folk. At the moment it’s sort of useful but at the same time useless. Sort it out the cornering is ok it reacts to bad driving while letting skilled drivers corner well and fast with no penalty but the acceleration and braking algorithms are horribly flawed and the mobile distraction is triggered by accepting alternative routes when using the phone for navigation which is ridiculous.

Got this as it promised to give better insurance quotes if you have a good driving score, but that is just not true, when compared with other insurance quotes, this actually gave the more expensive insurance quotes compared to the other sites.
