Superb app
I know nothing about tuning drums. I’ve used this app to tune my cheapo snare and the difference is like night and day. If the rest of my kit sounds half as good after tuning, I’ll be a very happy bunny.

I now have a dependable system to tune my drums. I still rely on my own listening skills, but this is well supported with the measurements from the app. The resonant tuning section is a very worthy addition to any drum tuning system ( which I’ve never come across before). The tutorial videos are worth checking out as well - they can get you up and running with approaching tuning, plus a nice understanding of what’s going on theory wise. The only snag I’ve had is getting a reliable reading from the edge hits when performing resonant tuning - even with the drum very evenly tuned across both heads. However I still get good results nonetheless😀.
First, as many reviews here have said, it really is worth reading the instructions/theory if you’re not already familiar with it. Having last played acoustic drums regularly over 20 years ago (only playing electronic since), I recently bought a second hand kit that had been unused for a while. This app has got it sounding really great and has been worth every penny. I use it regularly now to check the tuning before rehearsals and gigs and after replacing heads etc. Highly recommended.
Firstly App is not intuitive - takes a while to figure out how to use. Secondly the readings aren’t consistent. I can see it has loads of good reviews. But it’s a bit of a joke for me, trying to tune the snare reso and goes from 200hz to 400 n’ something in same two hits. The tutorials for snare on YT tune the batter but not the reso and the comments point you to the manual. All in all you need to dedicate a lot of study and a few days or weeks to use this. Don’t expect good results with sn awful lot of effort.
Great app, very useful for tuning the drums, rectifying the lugs’ tensions and experimenting with the batter and resonant heads relationship (Resonant Tuning Factory - RTF). Great communication as well. Highly recommended!
I’ve been using this app for about 3 weeks now, I regularly have it giving vastly different readings from 165hz to 425hz when hitting the drum in the same place while doing lug tuning. After doing this about 3 times the app crashes and reloads. It’s very frustrating. It’s time consuming enough to tune a drum , this app is supposed to help. At the moment it’s making it a longer and more frustrating process
I use this all the time. I found it a little difficult at first but as my old physics teacher said ‘if all else fails read the instructions’. Seriously though, read the theory first then have a play. One you’ve used it a few times it becomes very easy to use, relatively fast and, I’ve found, eliminates all the nasty overtones - I.e. no need to use tape to dampen the drums anymore!
Excellent App very user friendly with lots of tips
I haven’t tried tuning with the app yet, but if it’s used at Abbey Road Studios just on a phone then it must be good. The information about the science of tuning including the fundamental frequency ranges for each piece of the kit is worth the 5 stars alone. This will help no end in the studio. The downside to the app… I want more presets. It comes with tuning presets for rock and jazz though, but I want more. Tunings and theory for other types of drums/styles/genres would be really cool. Like bongos and orchestral drums for example.
Not sure how they do it, this app is great. But more than that, it teaches you how to tune drums and to better understand your instrument! Amazing work
