I think this app is really good. There’s nothing really lacking. I just wish that you could change it so that it would read it to you in English so that you can memorize the meaning in English. I know it shows the transition translation but then if you read the transitions, you can’t really focus on the Chinese so it’s just would be nice to have that so it’s a really good app . I just want that

### ***** "My FAVORITE!! The Best App for Reading and Understanding!"
I was looking for a way to learn new Chinese words in context in a way that would also challenge me, and this is the PERFECT app for that! It has many different stories to choose from in many different levels. It provides the English translation as well as the corresponding Pinyin to help you learn, as well as an option to turn either of those off so that you can test yourself with no aids. It also has an option to play an audio recording that highlights the text as it says it. You can also click on a word and it brings up the definition for it and you can bookmarks words and stories to study them later. No fluff! Just straight to the point, easy to navigate, and helps you learn. LOVE IT!!

As a Chinese learner of many years wanting to refresh and upgrade my reading abilities, Du Chinese has been a wonderful discovery that’s worth the cost and stands out amongst a sea of AI slop apps. The killer features for me are 1. authentic engaging texts read by native speakers, 2. full range of difficulty levels, so I can vary between easier Intermediate and Advanced texts, 3. difficult only pinyin, so I can read mainly characters while only showing pinyin for rare or new words, 4. underlining vocab by HSK difficulty, 5. flashcards that can be imported into Skritter or Anki. Instead of promising everything to everyone, this is a language app that knows what it does - develop Chinese reading fluency - and does it excellently.

### ***** "Accept no substitutes."
Mandarin is the 4th language I’ve studied. So I came to it with a fairly well-entrenched set of tools and study methods that worked well for me. And they were working well for me with Chinese, too. 

But I ended up dropping all of them after discovering Du Chinese, because it brings almost everything together into a one-stop shop that streamlines my studying beyond all recognition. I’ve got all the practice material I could hope for, both written and oral. I can find it so easily. I’ve got sentence mining in a single tap, and a very good SRS built in. I’ve got grammar notes presented in a timely manner. I’ve got an audio player and suitable material for shadowing. The subscription fee is a crazy good value for all of that, considering how much time it saves me and how much it streamlines my study routine. 

Also huge props to the dev team for being open to feedback and suggestions. Because no it’s not perfect - no app ever is. And no they don’t give me everything I ask for - you can’t please all the people all the time. But it’s clear they are always just trying to support learners and make Du Chinese as great as Du Chinese can be, without all the engagement hacking and dark patterns, and for that I am forever thankful.
