Dumbify Reviews

don’t have basic apps to add to widget + no communication

Disamah on

It’s a good app with a nice widget system but unfortunately Discord and Shopify aren’t able to be added to it, unlike other apps i’ve used similair to dumbify. I also reached out to support twice via the app but to no response.

I love this app

A great app for helping with overstimulation. I just wish a few others popular apps were available from the widget list. I’ve resorted to keeping Firefox and Outlook down at the bottom dock area which kind of spoils the look a bit.

Bit of a scam

Too much money for less features than all the other minimalist apps give you, don’t be fooled by the nice design (the free ones are better)

Too many weird behaviours

I would love to use this but it is refusing to launch the shortcuts app to add fundamental apps to the widgets. Cannot get it to work and I really cannot be bothered trying to debug this any more. Probably Apple’s fault but still annoying. This app is basically just using the widgets functionality, with each having a list of apps that can be launched, and a matching wallpaper to mask the fact that it’s a widget once pulled onto your home screen. I’m not sure the price of the app is worth it considering it doesn’t really lock your phone down, just creates a list for you. iPhone OS17 has this functionality built in with Assistive Access and it actually is locked down. This, plus the annoyance of things not working as fluid as I’d like makes it a no from me. Should be a trial version as I wouldn’t have sunk £5 into something that wasted an hour of my life trying to be functional. I really do appreciate devs working on apps like this as smartphones are a curse, but I don’t think we’re their yet. Not to say don’t give it a go, lots of people seem to have success with it, mine just will not link to the shortcuts app after reinstalling both in different orders, restarting my device etc. Seen others on Reddit with same issue

Lack of supported apps

I really want to love this app. Sadly most apps require a shortcut so when opening them the screen flicks to the shortcut app briefly before the requested app. This is really off putting and creates too much friction to use this app. Feel like I wasted my money unfortunately.

Must have minimalist app

Brilliant app, only issues are to do with Apple’s side, i.e removing App Library, and shortcut app appearing for some apps (but most of the them are fine!) The only ‘want’ I would love from this app would be to add a smaller widget so I can have 2 widgets on the same page which would allow me to display multiple app choices down to the bottom of the screen A minor suggestion but please nonetheless!

This does not make your phone minimalistic or “dumified”

It only gives you a widget with apps you put in to make it look like texts…Its just your phone with a widge to open apps…just gives you extra steps!

Clever little app

Dev has done a great job being creative to achieve something that Apple doesn’t otherwise allow. Takes a little bit of setting up but again the dev have done their best to streamline that as much as possible.

Doesn’t work

Fiddly waste of time £5 wasted

Good for reducing screen time

JJLiverpool12345 on

This app takes a little time to set up and sort. It’s excellent at reducing screen time and reduces temptation to open apps you didn’t intend on using. One issue is the constant running of shortcuts. I’ve not found a way to have them run without the shortcuts app loading. I’ve noticed my battery is taking a hit too and assume it’s the constant shortcuts running. If I’m going something wrong please reach out!
