## EGK PenangFerry Description
EGK PenangFerry is a cutting-edge mobile app tailored for commuters and travelers using the Penang Ferry service between Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (Butterworth) and Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda (Georgetown). Designed for iOS, this app streamlines ferry travel by delivering the next available departure time based on the user's origin and the current date. Leveraging the iOS device's calendar, EGK PenangFerry automatically detects whether it's a weekday (Monday to Friday) or weekend (Saturday and Sunday), applying the appropriate schedule without manual input. This smart feature ensures accuracy, making it an indispensable tool for daily commuters, tourists, or anyone navigating the Penang Strait.
The app's interface is user-friendly: simply enter "Penang" or "Butterworth" in the TextField, tap "Get Next Ferry," and see the next slot. On weekdays, Butterworth departures run from 06:30 to 23:00 (e.g., 06:30, 07:00, 07:20, ..., 23:00), and Penang from 07:00 to 23:30 (e.g., 07:00, 07:20, 07:40, ..., 23:30), with intervals varying from 20 to 30 minutes. On weekends, Butterworth operates from 06:30 to 23:30 (e.g., 06:30, 07:00, 07:30, ..., 23:30), and Penang from 07:00 to 23:30 (e.g., 07:00, 07:30, 08:00, ..., 23:30), with consistent 30-minute intervals. The app uses Swift's Calendar (e.g., calendar.component(.weekday, from: Date()) where 2-6 = weekday, 1 or 7 = weekend) to adjust schedules dynamically. At 07:37 PM today (Thursday, August 21, 2025), a weekday, the next ferry from Butterworth is 20:00, and from Penang is 20:00, reflecting the current schedule.
Research from Penang Port supports these times, though the app uses hardcoded arrays for efficiency and reliability. A "Buy Ticket" button links to the official ticketing site, enabling seamless purchases after checking times. The app employs DateFormatter to compare the current time with the schedule, rolling over to the next day's first slot (e.g., 06:30 for Butterworth) if no ferries remain.
Built with SwiftUI, EGK PenangFerry offers a clean, responsive design across iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, with no ads or data collection for privacy. Future enhancements could include live delay updates via API or push notifications for favorite routes. Ideal for Penang residents or visitors, this app ensures a smooth ferry experience. Download EGK PenangFerry now and travel with confidence!
