Energy Saver App

A fantastic energy saving app with lots of hints and tips on saving energy. In addition to this there’s graphs on energy usage and a financial energy supplier comparison tool to help customers find the best value for money energy supplier. Hopefully, Oxfordshire County Council will extend this app beyond March 2025.

You do not have octopus as a gas supplier?

When setting up, straight away it says how do I pay my dual fuel bill, I only have electric, then it give option of low mid or high use, high is only showing 4400kW a year, I’m closer to 18000kW with a heat pump and EV. Then to attach to the smart meter they want debit card details with no indication of a secure connection. App appears to have been built very quickly with no actual thought around cyber security or anything other than the most common fuel use.

Easy to set up and use. However, I can’t see what it gives me over and above my existing supplier’s app? I indicated I have an EV, but the tariff switch quotes don’t show me any EV tariffs? The energy saving tips seem generic too - I’ve had more advanced apps in the past that detect appliance power usage pattern signatures and give tailored energy savings advice. So all in all, it’s OK but I can’t understand where the value is for me.

Impossible to connect with Smart meter. It just keeps saying there is a problem, whichever way I try to link to it. Tells me I have no device registered at my address! I have used other monitoring apps with my meter so assume this is an issue with the app database.

Just gives fantastic insight

I’d say that I was already energy-savvy, but this app shows near real-time energy use data for both import and export (as I have a solar PV system) in a way not done by my energy-suppliers app, clearly showing the background drain overnight which I’ve been able to further reduce. The personalised tips have highlighted specific areas to focus in on around the house; early days but looking forward to making further improvements in the future as I’ve 100% already saved electricity and therefore money with this app! It’s a win all-round as no doubt carbon has been saved also, so much-needed positive action for our planet too…

You need the In Home Display serial number not any number connected to your smart meter. Our IHD was in the back of a drawer because our tariff is not viewable on our IHD. Eventually found it but the app doesn’t give any useful insight. It’s complete guesswork on what it thinks.

Would be great if it would actually connect with the provider instead of coming up Error!
