## ERG 2020 Description
PHMSA (U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration)'s 2020 Emergency Response Guidebook provides first responders with a go-to resource to help deal with hazmat accidents during the critical first 30 minutes.

The ERG contains an indexed list of dangerous goods and the associated ID number, the general hazards they pose and recommended safety precautions. For example, if emergency responders arrive at the scene of an overturned tractor trailer displaying a DOT hazmat placard, they would use the guide to identify the material associated with the placard and get guidance on how to respond accordingly.

The 2020 version of the ERG includes general revisions, reorganized general information pages, protective distance mapping updates, and the new ability to share data links through URLs. Updated every four years, the ERG is available free to public safety agencies in all states and territories through designated state coordinators’ offices. PHMSA has partnered with the National Library of Medicine to provide this free application as well as a version of the ERG in its Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders (WISER) application.

## ERG 2020 Reviews in United States

### ****- "Found a glitch"
Sulphur Molten UN 2448 can be classified as class 9 or class 4.1 the app only shows class 4.1
-- dhjhffbnjhfvbnjfdcvnjhcc, 2025-09-22

### *---- "Paid version?"
I ain’t paying for a book I can get for free. Get bent.
-- mattyreebok, 2023-06-18

### ****- "Good but needs help"
Data is easy to find. However, plume map pin can’t be moved nor is entering lat and long manually accurate. More than a mile off. This is a critical component when determining a valuation and downwind concerns. FIX IT
-- x hi sndueh, 2021-02-04

### ****- "Glossary"
Great app easy to use but a glossary feature would be a game changer
-- Timothy Chavez, 2020-11-03

### ***-- "Missing links"
When I search by un # the corresponding guide page has the “map”, “guide..”, “protective distance” tabs appear. If I go through the “browse guide pages” tab instead those tabs don’t appear on the guide page?
-- Scorned Murican, 2020-06-13

### ***** "Update"
When will the 2020 update be coming out?
-- concerned FF, 2020-05-19

### *---- "Unreadable guide pages"
My tab to browse the guide pages is unreadable and the chemicals are all bunched up on top of each other?
-- Phytphyr, 2020-05-18

### ****- "Great tool!"
Was easy to use and quicker than thumbing through the book. Would like to see the ability to drop the waypoint on the map when plotting isolation distances, currently you can only input addresses. Also, the text bubble used with the waypoint does not display entire text, even when screen is rotated on iPhone 7.
-- Monty15, 2019-07-12

### *---- "ERG 2016 terrible"
ERG 2016 for iPhone doesn't work for the Xs Max. I have deleted it and reinstalled it with no luck. The beginning pages are all jumbled together and I can't use this. This is a great resource if it worked with this iPhone. Please fix or something.
-- w ref GP outgoing, 2019-06-20

### ***** "Great for Hazmat InService Training"
App works great.....don't work without it
-- Orisio, 2017-07-26
