The EU Exit: ID Document Check app lets you confirm your identity online, as part of your application to the EU Settlement Scheme.
By using this app, you will not need to send us your identity document by post.
Who can use the app
You must be resident in the UK and either:
• be a European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss national
• have an EEA or Swiss national family member, if you are not a national of a country in the EEA or Switzerland
If you are not an EEA or Swiss national, you must have a UK issued biometric residence card or permit (provided you are in the UK) to use this app. If you do not have one, you will need to apply by post instead.
Before you start
You will need to be in a well-lit area, so you can take a good quality photo of yourself.
You will need either:
• your passport or national identity card, if you are an EEA or Swiss national
• your UK issued biometric residence card or permit (provided you are in the UK), if you are not an EEA or Swiss national and have an EEA or Swiss national family member
You need to use:
• an iPhone 7 or newer
• iOS 15 or later
If you use a national identity card without a biometric chip, you can still use this app but will need to send us the card by post.
How it works
1. Take a photo of your identity document.
2. Access the chip in your identity document using your phone.
3. Scan your face using the camera on your phone.
4. Take a photo of yourself for your digital status.
What happens next
The app only helps confirm your identity. You must complete the rest of your application online separately. We'll tell you how to complete your application when you finish using the app.
Privacy and security
The app is safe and secure. Your personal information will not be stored in the app, or on the phone when you finish using it. For information on staying safe online please visit the UK Cyber Aware website.

I have tried it multiple times over the last few months, unfortunately the app never works. It does the checks and then nothing happens. When you try again, it says you might have to wait 24h
Unable to scan passport
Settled status: App is able to scan biometric residence card straightaway, both sides Multiple attempts and unable to find chip in passport, leading to being locked out of app
This app app bugs me off
Everything everything going smooth until something happen all documents went through but when you scan chip it goes crazy after few tries worked now says all steps nearly complete now I need call it and do it by phone
Application nulle
Ça ne fonctionne pas, l’application ne parvient pas à trouver le fameux Chip !! J’ai essayé au moins 20 fois sans succès ! Veuillez employer des développeurs web digne de ce nom pour mettre à jour cette application. On va pas se battre pendant des heures pour scanner un fichu passeport, c’est ridicule franchement !

Finding the chip is impossible. Also, link to the website aren’t working.
Absolutely the worse app I ever used.
If there is something they managed to do is an app that is absolutely useless to scan a document. Seriously, I can read every single think on the screen but no, the app cannot. And then it returns and error message like I am using it wrong or doing something silly. Seriously, couldn’t the app just recognise it is bad at doing the only thing it is supposed to do? Why can’t I take a photo of the document and submit for it to analyse instead? This is the worse junk I ever used. So much does not work that I will have to send the document on the mail. So much advanced technology yet they can’t make a simple document scanner.
No passport
Why I can’t scan my passport , it only scan card!! I don’t have any card only my passport HELP PLEASE
Not compatible with iPhone
Unfortunately this app is not fit for purpose. It fails to properly scan my biometric identity card every time, claiming I’ve moved the card or phone even if the two items are perfectly stationary and I’ve set it up exactly as pictured. Yet another example of a government IT contractor doing shoddy work and reaping our taxes whilst likely laughing all the way to their Guernsey bank aboard an ostentatious yacht.
