From the smooth and easy booking process to the overall experience, everything ran seamlessly. The itinerary was clear and well thought out, and all airport and hotel transfers were right on time, which made the trip feel stress-free from start to finish. The tour guides were fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and super efficient—and the hotel accommodations were great, conveniently located near major highlights and very comfortable. The standout moment of the trip was, of course, Machu Picchu. Huge shoutout to our guide Carlos, who made the experience unforgettable—he was fun, engaging, and incredibly informative. We especially loved the small group size (just six of us!), which made the tour feel personal and never rushed. We had the perfect balance of learning, exploring, and soaking in the beauty (with plenty of time for photos). Once I arrived into Portugal and meet my tour person “Antonio”, the trip was seamless. The trip was well organized and planned. I was happy we had a small group which made it more personable, and easy to enjoy each other’s company. Antonio was very knowledgeable of Portugal & Spain. He was very attentive to all of our needs and made the trip very memorable and enjoyable. I am positive we would have not enjoyed the trip as much as we did without the expertise of Antonio and his dedication to ensure that we all had a great time. He was fantastic! Our experience was frustrating, stressful, and ultimately very costly. Flight Cancellation, No Support When We Needed It Most:
Our flight was canceled with no communication from Exoticca. We only found out when we arrived to check-in. While standing at the airport desk, trying to avoid missing critical connections, the “24/7 emergency” support line was an automated bot promising a callback within 24 hours. Completely useless in a real-time airport crisis. Because accepting the airline’s voucher for a next-day flight would have caused us to miss our non-refundable transportation to Machu Picchu, we had no choice but to purchase last-minute tickets with a completely different airline at a cost of $440 out of pocket. Over 10 days later, we still had not been contacted by Exoticca at all. Let alone regarding reimbursement for the $200 in the cancelled flights tickets or the $440 in replacement flights we had to purchase ourselves. One of the primary reasons to book through a travel agency is for support during disruptions. In this case, we were left entirely on our own. Disorganized Itinerary & Poor Planning
For the price we paid, the itinerary was shockingly vague or nonexistent . Exact times were rarely listed, making it nearly impossible to plan daily logistics (what to bring, when to eat, how to prepare). There was excessive unstructured or “free” time that felt more like lack of planning than intentional flexibility. Our final two days were completely unplanned in a city we had already toured extensively. Our return flight wasn’t until midnight, yet we were required to check out of our hotel at noon. A late checkout should have been arranged or at least offered. Seating Issues
Despite being on the same booking with the same last name, we were seated separately on both flights and trains multiple times. This is basic coordination that should not be overlooked. Machu Picchu Experience – Poorly Explained & Rushed
Our visit to Machu Picchu involved over five hours of travel, yet we were only given approximately two hours onsite and saw only a portion of the complex. The circuit system was never properly explained, and we were randomly assigned a circuit. We would have appreciated the option to select our preferred route — and would have gladly paid extra to access more than one circuit had that been offered. Chronic Transportation Delays
Drivers were consistently late, at least 10 minutes every time, and once over 30 minutes. T -- Dakota Gus, 2026-03-02 ### ***** "Peru and Bolivia trip" Our trip was amazing, all the hotels were very nice and the excursions and places we visited were well selected. The guides were very knowledgeable. I would recommend this itinerary to anyone wanting to know more about Inca culture, to visit amazing places, to eat great food and I would also recommend Exoticca to anyone. I have 2 suggestions for Exoticca: 1- please give the travelers the option to upgrade the overnight bus. I would happily paid extra to get on a flight and pay the hotel than to spend the night on that bus. It was hot and so bumpy, we could not sleep and it took 3 extra hours due to some road blockage, which takes me to my second suggestion 2- Please provide more time for optional excursions when arriving to the city. What I mean is that for example, we were in the overnight bus, were supposed to arrive at 7am but instead arrived at 9:45am. Arrived to Hotel and 10am. We had an optional excursion added (which means we paid extra), it was scheduled for 9am. I contacted the coordinator and they moved the excursion to 10am thinking we would be there before that, but no, we arrived to hotel at 10am, tired from the overnight bus with no sleep, hungry and they were waiting for us of course. We could not just drop the luggage and jump on that excursion, we needed to clean up, eat and rest. With all this being said, this excursion could had been scheduled for 12pm or 2pm, it could have been better giving time to rest and recover from the overnight bus. All the above is not to make Exoticca look bad at all, this are suggestions, as I said before I would recommend it to anyone and I’m looking already for the next trip with Exoticca. -- Milka’s, 2026-03-02 ### *---- "Worst experience ever" From beginning to end the entire process was a complete nightmare. Had to call the so called 24 hour helpline several times and no answer. No help with flight issues and cancellations. Had to re book every flight out of pocket. No reimbursement. The decision to go independent was not mine. The mess made with the incorrect passport expiration date put in by Exoticca caused the problems. Refusal to answer calls or talk to customer once the tour was booked and money received was extremely horrible customer non-service. Person who hung up because could not get area needed instead of giving proper guidance was extremely rude. Some agents were very nice, but this was a very expensive service just to book a flight. Two walking tours that people actually voluntarily give at other times free of charge were not worth the amount of money. Suggest strongly you find another tour company. Save yourself the headache, wasted money, lack of service, being ignored, and general disappointment while trying to figure everything out for yourself. Had we not been to Japan before, we would probably have missed the bullet train. And we had to book our own excursions for the most part, got help with the all day out package. That was good. Other things such as Tea Ceremony, had to go to online self booking. Do Not Use this non-service. -- Intercessor7, 2026-01-18 ### *---- "Terrible experience with this trip" the sales agent has booked all my intermediate flights separate from my group (even though I have specifically requested to be with my group), and when the uncontrollable events happened, such as the flights’ delayed, I was dumped in the airport without picking up, and it marked as “no show” status although I have consistently updated the supposed pickup driver; when the helps were needed, the Exoticca’s (including the local agencies) agents were never being available, even when they were available, they would tell me that they won’t help. -- exoticca’s traveler, 2025-12-18 ### *---- "Don’t bother with Exoticca" We recently returned from your Secrets of Sicily tour. I don’t know where to begin with my disappointment. Not with Sicily, with Exoticca. From the beginning, your failure to communicate was concerning. I never felt more unprepared. Our bus was filthy and our driver rude. He sat in the open doorway and smoked! The pace was grueling. We walked over 10 miles some days and climbed many steps. Although I put down the my husband was a vegetarian, I had to fight for him every meal. I couldn’t find anything in my documents that indicated the we would not have choices when it came to meals. Everything was preselected. Given my sensitivity to iodine, fish once each day, sometimes twice, caused my legs to swell and hurt. Our guide Angela encouraged us to go into a church while services were being held. The sign at the entrance specifically asked that tourists not visit during services. I found her disrespect appalling.
