The maps are clear and easy to read, with all the detail you could ask for. Seriously, yeh the maps are good, but hope to god that the app does not receive an update while you are out 4x4ing in a remote location with intermittent and slow data! Why do you need to prompt me every time my darn phone gets the slightest wiff of reception to update, forcing me to stop driving to close the prompt, because I dont have enough reception to download it. I can spend months on the road and some times it will happen more than 20 times in a day. Who cares if there is an update, ill do it in the app store when I want to, before a trip, not reminding me constantly!!! Please remove the update prompt function from the app! -- Kentole, 2024-07-03 ### ***** "Found what I had always been looking for…" After spending money on two separate H_ma maps, M Maps, Dirt M_p and a few others, I came across ExploreOZ from AllOfOffroad channel on YouTube. When I realised how information rich ExploreOZ is and not unnecessarily feature rich, I realised I found the ONE. The shared notes, photos, track information is just amazing. The app is way “lighter” than H_ma, less cumbersome and tracks do not disappear straight away when you zoom out. Plus, you can buy a map once and it’s yours. No silly subscription that everybody hates. We all know that. I mean there is subscription but not having it does not render the app useless. The offline map is yours, you bought it, you keep it, you use it. And I LOVE the simple layout. Probably not as beautiful as H_ma but I am using this app for functionality ONLY. Especially in the Simo, the Great Outback where nobody cares if an app has beautiful colours or not, all we care about how not to get lost. Everything is else is unimportant. Well done team. I originally purchased for a Kimberley trip and added the PC version after the web app had features removed. I’m now looking at something else for my main navigation tool. This app is fine as a planning tool when in 4G or 5G mobile range or with wifi available, but outside of that it’s too unreliable. I have been caught out several times with the app needing a data purge and redownload to get functionality back which renders the app next to useless as a navigation tool and when living and travelling in the Pilbara it’s generally out of action for my entire trip. I do rate the EO Topo map but with it only being available on the Traveller app it will be used for planning only and unlikely to update going forwards. The developers really know what they’re talking about and have put so many extra features in this app for tech savvy people. Its simple enough to use without knowing its full capabilities too. It’s great for hiking and trail finding. Not needing to constantly use paper maps as this has it all! I used it for vanlife and was so nice knowing what each place was offering before I got there.The places database is unlike any other competitor, wiki does not even compare to the quality of maps and information you receive through here. Offline capability is a must in Australia and you now need to look no further for the ultimate travel companion. I have done multi day hikes with nothing but this app for safety and navigation. -- Wanderous_, 2024-01-22 ### ***** "Excellent mapping software" Started remote travelling many years ago and bought all of the early Hema HN1 units up to the HN7. Always hoping that they would release a product that finally just worked correctly. When the HN7 was no better I got the chits and done a massive amount of research to see what I could change to. My research indicated that ExplorOz Traveller was highly rated. I gave it a crack and have never looked back. How good is it? Completed the Canning Stock Route in 2019 with two other mates(3OC). My mates used the latest Hema versions (it’s hard trying to covert people) and I used ExplorOz Traveller on my phone and iPad. I was 100% on the track 100% of the time, my mates GPS units had them up to 30 & 50Km away on numerous occasions. It actually caused quite a bit of discussion earlier in the trip. An example of just how different the apps are was finding the Tropic of Capricorn on the CSR. They both stopped a couple of Ks prior to find it. I stopped within 20m of it, opened a beer, pulled up a chair and waited. In regards to support, David & Michelle are fantastic. In fact they are real people and not just some chat bot, yep I’m not kidding, real people that actually know there product back to front. Do your self a favour, just buy it. You won’t regret it. I then came across the Exploroz App and have found it to be far easier to use than the HEMA product. I’ve already been in touch with their help desk, which turns out to be Michelle one of the owners. Her level of knowledge of the app is top rate. So you get real back up not just an employee. The extent of off-line Maps is very extensive as well as the preloaded treks. Another aspect I love is the amount of information that is available for each location that’s marked on the map. I initially chose this as I didn’t want to be locked in to a monthly subscription but I was also hoping for a vast track library with difficulty ratings from other people including time of year difficulty conditions ie dry or wet. That was disappointingly lacking as there either just isn’t a big enough community for this app or users were saving them as private tracks. The developers are now rectifying this by searching saved tracks and making public where appropriate. There still don’t appear to be that many users tracks near me and I really need to spend the time to sit down and watch the YouTube support videos as it is just a struggle to use compared to much more intuitive apps like Google. -- Clarky_X, 2024-01-03 ### ***** "More than just a map" An amazing App which has been useful in our travels since 2020. Used on both iPad and a Vhedia Head Unit. How we would have loved to have had something like this when we started a Big Lap in 1977 with just a road atlas in hand. The ability to create a trek before travel while still on line is a draw card, as is the Help Desk monitored by the creators themselves. Don’t get that sort of service often. Regular Newsletters and a comprehensive manual within the App is appreciated for useful tips and how to use information. Maps have good zoom level and the satellite map gives a bird’s eye view of the country. Place tags contain useful info about areas such as where to locate fuel, dump points, supermarkets and points of interest, including web links and contact numbers. Photos can be uploaded. Create your own Places for Personal use or save to ExplorOz for others to see. Creators David and Michelle are to be commended for creating a mapping tool that equips travellers with the essentials, and more! These review must’ve been sponsored as they were total BS. The maps are constantly wrong sending you to dead ends and one time into dead end which was a toilet block though a campsite. Map also very hard to read while on the move unless you have a passenger to spend all their time trying to work out the map. Wanted to like the app and support Australian company but it’s total rubbish and the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. There are a number of cheaper and even free apps that are significantly better than this.
