On desktop, the app works pretty great - however the IOS app has a couple of weird bugs and overall design issues that have not been resolved since I started using it about 2 years ago. 

Sometimes uploading files from the camera roll will just straight up not work or throw an error, more often with larger files, super annoying.

Also thumbnails just don’t work correctly for videos, half of the videos in my drive just don’t have thumbnails. 

You also can’t open audio files within the app.

Only reason I’m still using this service is because I did the one time payment for 100GB, which was a steal, even with all these issues, though it doesn’t seem like they offer this anymore.

If you are storing top secret files like nuclear launch code, this is for you. They delete ALL your data every couple months, the recovery keys do not work, and there is no autofill for the password. 
If all you want to save is important pictures that you don’t need to see everyday but would be sad to lose, this app deserves 0 stars. I don’t need this kind of hassle to try to see photos or videos. This will be the second time everything I uploaded is being deleted. Customer service is useless because everything is automated so they cannot stop it or find any of your info. 
If you have photos that you probably should be deleting anyways cause you don’t want other people to see them, sure this is a useful app. But my cat pictures are not going to cause a major security breach or cause me any harm if this data was leaked. I will use Facebook to store my pictures from here on out. 
Too much hassle for no benefit at all.

So far I’m pretty impressed with Filen. I like how we can configure the amount of storage needed, unlike Google Drive where the amounts are set. Very easy to use, I like how the app and desktop browser syncs seamlessly. So far so good!

Automatic Camera upload functionality fails to upload some photos and videos. It is difficult to scroll through all images and identify which are  failed to upload. Some PDF files fail to load for previewing and instead a black page is shown. But the service is very affordable and can be reliably used for storing documents and media that you upload manually.

As a technology professional and infosec enthusiast, I can wholeheartedly recommend Filen. Fully encrypted, open source, and inexpensive. The iOS app is also excellent, and it fully integrates with the Files app.

Pro tip: you can see what data Filen stores about you by going to Settings -> Account -> Show GDPR info.

The app is still young development but has potential to grow like many mature cloud storage. I really like the privacy aspect of it. I think end to end encryption and zero knowledge access technology will be in more demand because people are sick of data breach and data broker where internet users data is being collected and sold every day. It’s a sick internet world and it has to change for the better.

I love this service and the app is great. What I needed is to have more control over sharing file folders (containing PDFs and MP3s) than you can get with Google Drive or iCloud. This service works great for that!

My only complaint is that the app struggles to load MP3 files to view in the app. However, the website interface does this no problem. Once that starts working in the app consistently, then this app will be worth all of the 5 stars available to rate with.

I’d give it 1 star but my phone is broken. I can’t login cause I can’t reset my password. I try to reset and they won’t send me the link. If you get too many failed attempts, they delete your info. If you don’t login, they delete your info. It’s a terrible app. I am not saving passcodes for top secret nuclear launch codes, why is security doing its best to keep me out of my own account? Dial it back a notch. Also I don’t like the layout, it’s difficult to find photos or videos you uploaded.

This review is for the Web Drive. Please fix the file viewing in web drive app. The Web App advertises "Smart Folders" but you cannot even navigate between them since the GUI is hidden by the IOS tab panes. Overall there is a lot of functionality but is hindered by GUI implementation.

What’s the point of encryption, password
Protection, and locking everything in the app when the application creates a folder and saves it all right it plain sight, right in the Files app. That’s very bad for security. Even if you turn the thumbnails off, all offload content is still visible very easily in the files folder. I had high hopes for this up, maybe if you fix that and keep it all internally on the app, I’ll return. Until then I’m going back to SYNC
